Well, I thought I would finally stop in officially. A little background - I started palying bass in '68 and never stopped. It's the one "hobby" that I can't quit. I've been in my current band 16 years playing covers (50's-70's) and we've managed to average 100 gigs a year throughout that time. No complaints and still keep a day job. I keep a pretty broad selection of basses on hand. In 2000 I ordered a brand new MK Std from Evan over at BassNW, and got it that month with the free LED upgrade. Other than that it's plain vanilla, medium scale. It is still one of my very favorites and it comes out with regularity. I'm hoping to finally add a cousin at some point relatively soon. Meanwhile I drool....

Thanks all for the welome and the comments. I was very pleasantly surprised to find this top since this wasn't a special order and strictly off-the-shelf. I am very much looking forward to my next Alembic. Will |

Hiya Charles - thanks. The ONLY issue I have with this bass (and I'm sure it's no surprise) is that, since I'm not Mark King, this body style doesn't balance very well for me. I can make do with a 4" strap for one gig - 2 in a row and my back is really letting me know. It's very substantial - a whole lotta wood for a "little" body, and trying to keep it in a more traditional position takes real effort. Extra Omega cuts were out of my reach($$)when I got it so it is what it is. I sure do love the neck and how it sounds though. My main rig for several years has been an Ashdown RPM-1 pre (John Entwistle Signature model though I'm sure I don't know what the difference is between it and the standard one) driving a QSC PLX2402 and a 4 ohm Aguilar 212 cabinet. When I don't feel like lugging the QSC to a smaller venue I use an old GK800RB (80's vintage). The MK loves them both! I've been thinking of getting an F-1X to check out, but recent circumstances have conspired against me. One day.... |
