Greetings to all. I have just purchased an 87 Alembic Spoiler in MINT condition. I have been playing bass since I was 13 years old (I'm 43) and I always seen the ALEMBIC ads in Bass Publications when I was younger but I never dreamed that I would own a beautiful instrument like this. This is the best bass I ever put my hands on. I can't put it down. WOW. It's great to be in a forum with other Alembic owners. Any info or input from any of you is appreciated...

Hi John; welcome to the board and congrats on the Spoiler! Check out the FAQ and Must Reads sections for lots of useful info. And if you like, post some pics of your Spoiler in the Showcase section.

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny...
You think you walked into the Promise Land by just owning an Alembic (or Olympic for those who aren't quite in touch)...

Let me tell ya something buddy - you just wait until next year when we have the 2nd Annual Chicago Alembic/ Bag End Gathering (I see you are from the Windy City). Your life will never be the same again. It's good, it's all good :-)
See all of those basses (and guitars)- for an afternoon of your time you could play each and everyone of them - oh yes - even serial #12 in the top center of the photo.

Welcome aboard!

Good grief Johnny, you could be telling my story with your initial posting here. I remember seeing a picture of Stanley with an Alembic, and getting a lump in my throat. I felt pretty sad, because I knew that I would never be able to own a bass like that. 30 short years on, and I have just bought my second one :-)
I've only discovered the Alembic forum fairly recently, and I'm still a bit shocked that you can get to talk to people like Mica at Alembic, and also some seriously good bassists around the world. Also, remember that this community holds a wealth of knowledge from other walks of life which they're happy to bring with them when its appropriate. I was just reading a post about lowering the nut-height further than the adjustment allows, and one response came from experience learned from decreasing a particular shim size on a Jaguar engine :-)

Anyhow, greetings also from this side of the pond!

Welcome Johnny to the club, the wind does get very heavy in Chicago indeed and we all had a nice after time later at the dinner table, I said it before and I will repeat myself here..So many Alembics so little time!..Choose but choose wisely!..it's all good when you are at the Bag End gathering, you just can't make up your mind which one to play first, so you tell yourself..ALL OF THEM! and hope that time allows you to do that and if not you will swap stories that day with other members and hear each others taste and liking in the one's you did play!

Johnny, welcome to the club!
Never thought I'd own an Alembic either(especially as I was mostly a guitar player) but now I do and am SOOO thankful for it...killer instrument that makes me want to get better and exploit it's potential...and really, what more can you ask?
