Hi everyone,
I am new here. Firstly I wish to congratulate everyone for your great forum. I am a 47 year old bass player and have been playing the instrument since I was 16 yrs old. I currently own about 10 basses including vintage fender jazz, rickenbacker, gibson EB3, musicman, Wal and Yamaha. If I knew how good Alembics are I would have only aquired Wal and Alembic basses throughout my career as a musician.Well I owned my gorgeous Alembic Series II custom for about 2 years now.It is almost the perfect bass. Perfect in a way disimilar to most modern active basses like let say a warwick. It has a character and feel all of its own. I own half a dozen amps from Ampeg SVT to SWR and GK but unfortunately I only had time to play the alembic in mono tru a GK micro combo which I use for practice and in the studio swaping with an SWR Redhead at times.
My effects rack includes Furman, tc electronic, BBE, rane, rocktron, dbx and ashley equipement. I also use monster cables and EV speakers. Sorry to bore you with all this stuff but us bass players are usually equipement addicts so I thought I include some of my equipement. I never gigged with the Alembic it sounds so good I am almost terified to gig with it but I usually take my Wal Mk II for jazz or fusion gigs. Anyway I wish to thank Mica and Susan and all the guys at alembic for their help and support and also Beaver Felton at the Bass Central (awesome bass player).
Regards
Saviour

Paul likes backsides :-)
I prefer front, neck and head shots. Show us everything.
And welcome aboard, as others have already said...
Hope you stay and enjoy our little crowd a long time. We're here to celebrate music and communication.
Mike

I do Mike - there is something about it.

You know - the front is all business, hardware, controls, figured woods, strings, frets, inlays . . . the back is stripped down plain old function, it supports the front, a behind the scenes view of the raw instrument and there is something really (dare I say) sexy about that!!!

Ok Eligilam I will post some pics of my Wal too. For the moment all I could tell you is that it is one of the first Mk II ever built. It has wenge facings and the pickups are a little closer to the bridge slightly closer. I opted for an ebony fretboard but steve at electricwood declined as he said the neck will warp as it was too stiff . He basically took my idea and built the red Wal for geddy Lee for the Roll The Bones tour a year or so later. He later told me that he replaced the hornbeam in the neck with a softer wood in geddy`s WAL . Anyway I am glad he opted for a rosewood fingerboard at the time cause my Wal sounds great.

Wal basses are great eh. The closest thing you can get to an Alembic. They used to be called the poor man`s Alembic. In my opinion they are a different beast. The lower mids are so prenounced and stable they make a bass player drool if you know what I mean just great. Very difficult to amplify live though. They sound great with GK amps but seem to match best directly through a great PA boosted at 1.3K. At least that is what I found best from my humble experience.
