I bought this Persuader in October. It is my first Alembic. Might be my last but for some reason, I really doubt it. Been playing bass since I was about 6 and am 48 now. I've only owned a few basses compared to what I see here, but some were high-quality and some even high-dollar, but still, not very many. Right now I have 4 basses and this year is the only year I've ever owned more than two basses at the same time. Now, I think I can safely whittle things down to one bass. I don't gig, so a spare is not all that important to me. I like being intimate with a favorite and this Persuader is definitely my favorite. Before I bought it, I made a focused effort in learning to play softer as I understood that an Alembic can articulate better than the average bass. I've had some basses that make you beat them into submission, and so I do have a very heavy hand, normally. Now, after having this bass for several weeks, and playing it mostly softly, I've also learned that if you get heavy on it, it OUTPUTS just as heavy as you hit it. Really, I have never seen so much dynamic range in any instrument. I mean, it's clean all the way from soft to nasty hard! I don't even know if I'm explaining it, but I can play as soft as I want, yet every note is clear and pure, and then beat the crap out of it and every note is still just as clear, but sounds as aggressive as I intended it to sound. I have never played any bass with attack like this one. I think the so-clean attack is what makes this bass so much fun to play, and the oh so smooth clarity you can get when not trying to attack notes, WOW! Well, long intro I know, but I am just stoked with this bass. Buttery smooth action, and by the way, I adjusted the action so low that you barely had to press the string to fret a note, and there was no buzz, but I rasied things a bit because when raised, you get harmonics on this bass like no other I've ever heard. I think that is the piano-like comparison I've read about? It's still buttery smooth action when rasied, easy as heck to play, and I will leave it like this because I love the notes-within-notes that peek out when the strings can breath like this. Really, this instrument is a work of art. Thanks, Alembic! |
