Hello everybody, I'm a bassist in the Los Angeles area, and after almost 30 years of playing other instruments while secretly coveting an Alembic, I finally took the plunge a few months ago. Picked up a beautiful 4 string Europa used at a great price. This bass has immediately become my main 4 string and is getting played constantly. If you'd like to hear it, I've got a few videos on Youtube of me playing it: http://www.youtube.com/user/dougrossbass My main fiver is an old Tune Kingbass, recently upgraded with Alembic pickups and electronics (what else?). The Kingbass, along with the rest of my horde of basses, is featured on my website: http://www.dougross.net/ I've been so busy playing the Europa, I haven't even had time to really set her up. I'm sure I'll be posting lots of questions for all of the Alembic experts here. Thanks for looking! Cheers, Doug Ross |

Hi Doug, Welcome to the forum. Great looking Europa. Play it Healthy! Loads of valuable information here. Some good posts on setup are available in the "Must Reads" section. Art (Message edited by artswork99 on December 26, 2009) |

Thanks for the welcome! It's a 1993 Europa with flame Koa top. Nice and comfy, too, at only 9 pounds. I've had shoulder problems in the past, so I was holding out for a light Alembic, and finally found one. |

Hi Mike! Yes, it's the one I bought from you. By the way, I meant to ask you before, were you the original owner? Just curious. It was in pristine shape when I got it. |

Hey Doug! No, I wasn't the original owner. I got it from The Perfect Bass in Baton Rouge, LA. I cleaned alot of brass with Flitz polish and used the Alembic Supreme Polish for the wood. I'm glad you are liking the bass. Mike (Message edited by precarius on December 28, 2009) |

Yes, it played very well right out of the box. I've always done my own setups for the most part, although I think it would be worthwhile to have a professional repairman go over this fine old bass once. Does anyone know of a guitar repairman with Alembic expertise in the Los Angeles area? |
