Hi everyone, I'm the proud owner of a new Orion 5 with a Cocobolo top. I bought it last month from Bass Northwest and played my first gig with it on New Year's Eve. I've lusted after Alembics since the '70s but never could afford one. This is one very fine instrument, definitely the best I've ever owned. The wood work is outstanding and I love the machining of the bridge and tailpiece. The tonal range is huge - I'm still playing with my preamp, looking for that perfect tone, but I keep finding better ones. The only problem I have with this bass is keeping my guitar player's hands off it! Glad to be a member of the Alembic family. |

And we are glad to have you here Robert! Welcome to our humble(and growing) support group/family. I'm sure you will feel right at home here. Congratulations on the Orion! I, as well as my evil Belgian twin, look forward seeing some pictures of your new baby. There will soon be a gaggle of Paul's here to greet you and drool over another fine Alembic ;) So belly up to the bar and have a beer while you wait for them. Welcome, sir, but be very careful...after thoroughly navigating this site, and owning your first, you may be overcome with what brother Bracheen would diagnose as 'Alembicitis', which according to him is 'chronic, progressive and irrepairable'. I know that I have it, and I think it is contagious, so beware. Keep your cash securely in the mattress, and your credit cards locked away.....if you have a moment of weakness, we are here for you. Nice to have you aboard! Chris

Hello Robert, welcome to the club. I am pretty sure I know which one you picked up; that's a great instrument you have, can't go wrong with coco bolo. Valentino (the coco bolo monster) |

Robert, Welcome to the best support group for Alembic Addiction. (Hmmm...I guess that DOES make us AA) Can I assume by your screen name you're a Chris Squire fan? (and according to the no-pay-above-the-fifth-fret rule, you're broke too) Ken (TEO) |

Brother Robert, great to have you here! My good counterpart in the US said it very well: welcome indeed! Careful for those guitarplayers, they could be of teh "smashing" kind. Can you imagine the Pete Townsend-type of player? Ok ..let's check the bass ...BANG-CRASH-BENG ...ooooops. "Good one". AA -indeed- we're not Anonymous. This site is something like a giant Shrink couch where everybody can lie down, express himself (I love my Fender so much ...hummm...FAR gone man!!!) in front of 1000 and something conoisseurs!!! Oh ...the P-team is always a little apart. THey don't use a couch but a table for better Bottle-banging while yelling for pictures. Ok ...let's do this together in "choir": 1-2-1-2-3-4: "PICTURES-PICTURES-PICTURES" Paul the bad one PS1. Val ...Coco Bolo MONSTER??????? Nei-ei-eih! The Coco Bolo Baby ...you got more of a hugging bear!! PS2. Oh ...BTW ...if anybody (virtuall) bumps into Spider Ollie these days would you please be so kind to give me a call? I lost the number of his cell-phone and his e-mail adress is not responding. (Message edited by palembic on January 16, 2004) |

Robert, welcome to this great club of sick people. We all are strongly infected by Alembicitis as Chris mentioned before. And take care, it is very aggressive and it may cause a strong addiction. Show us some pics plse!! Take care Oliver (Spyderman) |

Hey Oliver, call Paul TBO. Oh and welcome Robert. Has anyone mentioned pictures yet? This is the best support group out there. We don't try to talk anyone out of their obsession but encourage it! BTW, tell your guitar player that the rumor of Alembic making guitars is true. They're not just a bass company. Congratulations on the new Orion and keep chasing that sound. Sam |

Robert, Another warm welcome! Time for my standard line: You are on your way to a nice, clean, healthy addiction! That's all right though, there are much worse addictions to have. Now for the chanting: PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES! John Paul |

Wow...10 posts in 4 days. The Alembicitis is truly an epidemic out there. I originally logged on to this site from work, so I'm just reading your posts now. Is there any way for me to sign on from two different e-mail accounts? Right now I guess I'm limited to work only. I will beg or borrow a digital camera to post some pictures of my rig (is including other "lesser" basses in the picture considered a faux pas?). I also have a Tobias (pre-Gibson) Killer B 5-string and a Rickenbacker 4004 Laredo. I play through an Aguilar DB680 preamp and a Carver (PT1250?) power amp, with a Peavey 2X15 cab and an Aguilar 1X12 cab. And congratulations Kenbass4...I've used the name SOUNDCHASER for a long time (mainly online poker), and you are the first one to correctly identify the source (should have figured it would take a bass player). Chris Squire is why I started playing bass 25+ years ago. I bought my Rick because of the amazing sounds Squire makes with his. My first Yes concert was in the '70s on their Relayer tour, and my mind has been comprehensively blown since then. I must have seen Yes live over a dozen times. As a kid I jumped into the deep end and tried to play Yes music immediately, before paying my dues with any basics at all. This (predictably) led to huge frustrations and caused me to give up on bass altogether for many years. Now that I'm wiser (OK, older) I've come to realize that Squire is from some different species that I can never hope to emulate. I still love the old symphonic Yes music but I don't even attempt to play it any more. Besides, where do you find other musicians who can play that stuff? These days my band (Axehandle Road) is doing mainly hard rocking blues (SRV, BB, Rory Gallagher). I started out playing exclusively with a pick (like my hero), but I've been working on my fingerstyle playing in the last few years. I like the fingerstyle tone so much better...I think it took some high-end equipment to really point out the differences. I still don't have the speed or the head-smacking attack that I get with a pick though. Thanks for the great welcome. Still searching for the beer though... RK the Sound Chaser |

RK About the only faux pas here would be not enjoying yourself and dissing Alembic. For the former we will just mess with you until you have fun. For the latter, well,I'll get the tar if someone else will bring the feathers. I think that most of us have some brand x gear laying about. There are even photos scattered around the board in various places. Check out this thread for some http://alembic.com/club/messages/449/7704.html?1074471357 You're a Rory Gallagher fan? I love Rory! He's not one you hear of a lot anymore. I don't think he ever got his true due. Sam |

Rory Rules!!! Saw him live in Leuven University Belgium in a small auditorium. Man ...what an energy. "Goin to my hometown" with the mandolin and the bass still gives me the goosepimps! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Paul TBO |

I'm with ya Robert!!! Chris is the reason I picked up my first bass back in 1974. I was only 8 years old then, and it's hard to get through the day without at least saying hi to one of my trees. (especially my Rickenbacker). There are a lot of fantastic bass players out there, but in my opinion, none as clean and puncuating as "The Fish". |

Hello board!!! After many years of drooling, I finally took the plunge and bought an '87 Spoiler. I sincerely hope the product description matches what I receive. Right now I have my fingers crossed that UPS gets it shipped out of the Jacksonville hub before Hurricane Charlie flattens the place. More after I receive the bass. |

Hey Lee! I'm in Jacksonville. You could have had it dropped off at my place for safe keeping. Congratulations on the Spoiler and welcome to another Floridian. Sam |
