Well, I did it! I purchased a new Skylark SN 02L12910USA through Guitar Ressurection! It's my 1st Alembic, I won't actually touch it for about a week or so, meanwhile, I get to practice patience.

I've been playing music pretty much all my life, and I feel as excited as I ever have about the directions this instrument will take me.

I haven't joined in the club conversation very much, but I have been listening in for quite some time.

I've longed for an Alembic since the first time I played one(around 1974, unplugged). Now it is becoming a reality.

I can say for certain that "The Club" has been one of the main factors in my decision making process. For that as well as the pearls of wisdom interspersed throughout, I thank you all.

Thanks, Hollis......I know, I know....Pictures! Pictures!....Pictures!

Hey Hollis, good to have you here. Guitar players seem to be few and far between for some reason.
How about some info on the Skylark. Did you order it or buy it off the rack? What woods are used? The Skylark is one sweet guitar. If I played better I'd be buttering up Senior Management for sure. Guess I'll stick with bass.

Good boy-good boy.
Well ...people get educated here.
A guitar ...oh ...huh ...that's that kinda smaller scaled bass with six thinner strings??? LOL
Do you mind we Pauls have a drink on our table while you practice patience. It must be quite a thrill to experience this "evolution to Alembicianship". Believe me ...I've been there!

Paul the good one ...6!

Paul the bad one

If it's a Zebrawood Skylark you will smell her coming HA!

Sam ...try the buttering with your bass on senior management

I would Paul but I was reminded a couple of days ago that two of my basses and my Strat I've had for less than a year.

Hollis, he's not kidding about the Zebrawood. It sure is pretty though.

Welcome aboard Hollis!

It's nice to have you, and your Skylark, here. I guess since you've been lurking on the board for a while you've been patiently waiting for some of the Pauls to stop by. And I see you know all about the pictures rant ;) By the way, is Tacoma as foggy as Yakima? I was in Yakima in January about 15 years ago and could not believe how foggy it gets. I remember trying to drive to a restaurant at night barely able to see the tail lights of the car in front of me!

Anyway, welcome to our family and support group!

Thanks for the welcome.
The Skylark is off the rack...but man, what a rack! It appears to be sunburst flame maple...perhaps Valentino can fill in the blanks:
SN 02L12910USA Hmmmmm Val? There's a picture of it still on the Guitar Resurrection website under new guitars. I'm mailing the balance via Certified Check today so I expect it late next week or early the week after.
I play through Mesa stuff so I know it's gonna sound sweet.
As for the fog in Tacoma, I can't really see it through the rain drops!

Hollis,

Welcome to the asylum!! Your new addiction will be nurtured and supported here in fine company.

You know the routine. When the Skylark comes in warm up the camera and we'll empty some bottles and...

This certainly would be a different place without Paul tbo....

The beers come in very large glasses around where you live don't they Paul tbo? I seem to recall they can also come in very small glasses where the barkeep 'shaves' the foam off the top with a knife of some sort....

Well.
Let's go technical.
Beers from draught of the Pils type are coming in 25cc, 33cc or 50cc.
Special draught beers (abbeys, ales, dark, blondes, specialties) have most of the time a special glass designed for them.
In UK, US qnd Finland (oh yes I know) they serve beers in "pints" wich are closer to our 50cc. While a "pint" is the standard for you the 50 is definitely NOT standard for us. It's 25cc. Although in a real "Stella" Café it is a 33cc.

The tradition to drink beer from the bottle as shown in most US movies in a bar is for us NOT DONE. I have to admit dat I DO like it but most of the time in home or private situations in what case I prefer a bottle. Here again: specialty beers are never drunk out of the bottle, it's not done in any case because it doesn't show the respect for the drink it deserves to have but also because some tastes will not open if you drink it that way.

Pots of beer that you share with friends round a table is not done here. It doesn't exist. 1 exception: the beer "Lambic" MUST be served in such a pot because in theory that beer only exist in barrels. "Lambic" is one of the oldest beers known to man or brewed that way. It's the stage before "Geuze". You get "Geuze" by putting the "Lambic" from the barrel in a 1 liter bottle and let it ferment again (see champagne process BTW the old fashioned way to make "Geuze" is in champagne bottles cloesd with a cork the same way). My uncle is in that brewing business and as I understand very popular in the US. However: because of the "sweet tooth" of you US people the "Geuze" is heavily sugared. Lindemans is also popular as "Kriek" (Geuze + cherries), "FRamboise" (Geuze + raspberries????), "Pecheresse" (Geuze + peaches).

HOwever: if you visit Brussels, go to the "Mort Subite" (every cabdriver know it) it is a very typical bar where one serves good Geuzes and typical food.

Sunset? Sun? What's that?
I'm from Washington State, we know it's sunset because it gets just a little bit darker.
I'm really looking forward to opening up the case for the first time.
I wonder if anyone can tell me what guage strings it's set up for?
As for beer....bottles, pints, ounces, barrels, kegs.......just as long as they keep on coming!
Have one or three for me!

Standard strings are 10s. The top and finish is amazing on that Skylark! When you get it, you'll see the burst on the back, the back of the neack and peghead as well. The front of the peghead has an ebony veneer, and yeah elzie, you CAN see the ceiling tile reflection. Wild.

Thanks for the string info Mica, 10's sound just right...Dave (@guitar resurrection) told me it's "one beautiful guitar", I can hardly wait for 1st contact.

I talked to Guitar Res this morning, they received the $$ and are shipping today! Now I get to do the UPS shuffle....I guess time really is relative, 'cause it's sure slowing down right now.

I've spent the last 10 days playing, playing, changing strings, playing, playing, adjusting string height, playing, changing strings, playing, playing, adjusting, changing strings, and playing....etc.(repeat when necessary)

What can I say...This is the finest guitar that I've ever had the pleasure to own...and over the last 40 years, I've owned a few. Up until now, my favorite electric guitar has been my Travis Bean Artist....No longer! I love my Les Paul less, Paul! (sorry Paul, I couldn't resist!) Suffice to say I've enjoyed many wonderful instruments over the decades, but this one surpasses them all! It plays even smoother than it looks. And the sound is just this side of heaven. To say that I'm blown away by this guitar is an understatement. It's pure enjoyment! My only regret is that I didn't make this purchase sooner. I'd be a better guitarist if I had.

Thanks to all for the welcome, and thanks to all the folks at Alembic for putting such a high quality instrument in my hands.

Whew! Thank goodness you're OK. After not hearing from you for a few days, we all figured that you received your new masterpiece, played 5 days straight, overdosed, and were lying by the side of the road somewhere, completely passed-out.:-) Isn't it wonderful what a new Alembic will do for you??!! And to think, many people need drugs to achieve this feeling...go figure....!

Yes indeed! Never fear! I almost always land on my feet. I guess I'm just another dopeless hope fiend. Gotta go play some more.
