What I usually do regarding the picture, is getting a high quality picture and resize it until it hits the 150kb size. It has worked fine for me. I use the ColorSync Utility on my mac for that. In addition to reducing the size of the picture as Greg suggested, the software I'm using gives me the option to reduce the 'quality' when I click on 'save as'. Going from 100% to 95% can significantly reduce the KBs without much difference in appearance.
