Hi,
I'm new to the club and new to Alembic ownership. I have to admit i now have the alembic bug bad! I've been playing professionally all my life and mostly used Fender basses. Not bad, sure they are the industry standard, but my playing was growing and not my equipment. So I stumbled across an 88 Persuader 4 string (quilt maple top, still in very nice shape) and now I'm hooked. That was 3 months ago. I've already picked up a 95 five string Epic. NOW i'm drooling over the idea of getting a MK signature 5 string or a SC signature 4. I almost wish I didn't jump at the Epic 5 because it tied up my funds however in my gig I often need the low B and didn't want to play anything but an Alembic. (Got spoiled real quick with the Persuader.) The epic sounds and looks awesome but the necks a tad big for me. So that's my story and i'm sticking to it! :-) In the future I'll no doubt be looking to trade/sell the Epic for the above mentioned Alembics. Anyone interested in a trade?

Brother Raymond,

WELCOME!!!
Brothers and sisters ....come over here and look at this fine specimen of a Drunken Bunnie!!!!!
I'll range the Paul's now around the table in our corner Brother Paul the good one will bring the beer-bottles and yes the chant goes off: PICTURES-PICTURES-PICTURES!!!!

So ...do you have nice Alembics ...it's showtime man!!!!

ABout those dreams, I have to advise you the MAAM: Malthums ALembic Acquisitian Method. DO a search for that in this garden of the low frequencied species or , if you're asking nice Brother James (Mathumb) will not bite (he didn't bite regularly the last the time) and he'll explain it to you. You're on your way of his method ...I can say you that for sure!!!

Me thinks I've been properly welcomed! THANK YOU BROTHER PAUL !

I've been lax in my duties of taking said photos of my new Alembic babies HOWEVER now that I'm a member if this fine club I have incentive to pull out ye ol digital cam and take a snap or two. And yes ... they do have a rather sharp look about them! The Persuader has a quilt maple top and mahognay body. Still very pretty despite it's age. It has the P-J pick-up arrangement and the pickups are yellow to match the body. I didn't care for the black knobs so I replaced them with brass ones to match the bridge and hardware. The Epic has a Babinga top with nice coloring and is your typical 5 string Epic. I'll take the shots ASAP and post them. And I'm very interested in learning about MAAM! Now to find a winning lottery ticket! ;-)

Hi Mint bass,
Yeah my Epic 5 string is like brand new, not a scratch. I play through an Ampeg SVT PRO-5 head and have an Ampeg 4X10 bottom and two Hartkie 4X10 bottoms. I just got the Head and it's made a considerable difference in the tone of both basses. Also the low B on the Epic doesn't even begin to fold the amp or ampeg cab. My ONLY problem with the Epic is the neck on the 5 string is HUGE. I have difficulty playing the neck low on the B string. Luckily most work I do down there is slow fingering - ballads and stuff. The Persuader i have on the other hand has a Med. scale neck and is REAL FAST! Great for funk ... popping stuff. I put heavy gage strings on it and lowered the action real close so I can slap and pop with ease and still use my fingers in the traditional way without hitting the strings against the neck by accident. (Makes that loud clicking sound through the sound system when i do! ;-)

Anywho ... thanks for the welcome! I'm sure we'll chat soon.

Hello Ray, nice to meet you. I'm an Epic guy also with a '94 4 string. Epic guy, that sounds kind of conceited. Anyway welcome to the club. There's a whole bunch of New England members, or Drunken Bunnies as they are affectionatly called. NE & EU are probably the largest groups geographically speaking. I wonder if there are any stats on members by area. Valentino?

No stats, Sam, sorry. I'd have to look up all 800 or so of you and tally the state/nation (if listed) for everyone.

Hi Ray!! Welcome aboard. I share your appreciation for med scale necks. In my case, my fingers aren't that long. The difference between 34 and 32" is pronounced. My new Alembic is a 32" (can't wait to get my hands on it). I'm planning a 5 string next and pretty much settled on another 32 for that. My only reservation is that a 32" low B string worries me a little. I have seen a few (very few) narrow necked 34" 5 strings that were actually pretty easy to play.

Welcome to the fold - Pictures, Pictures, Pictures (etc.) - Don't be a stranger.

Another Persuader owner???? I was beginning to wonder if I had the only Persuader in existence. Mine's an '85 with a bird's eye maple top on the mahogany body. I will definitely add more Alembics to my stable but I think this one has found a permanent home.

Welcome Raymond ........ I'm not the only one

Hey brother Paul! I don't want to hijack this thread too much so I'll keep it short. I've been real busy :-) More to come later.....

Raymond, Randy...

No. You two aren't the only Persuader owners!!! I have an 83 w/ koa top. My first Alembic. I've addded 3 more Alembics since then. You're on your way to a nice, clean, healthy addiction!!

BTW.. Welcome!

Yeah i love my 88 Persuader. Quilt maple ... very pretty. I still have the hots for a MK or series 1. I love the standard and omega body shapes. Bass Central has a MK 6 string fretless I'm drooling over. I love playing fretless ... if only I had the $$$$. And their price is actually reasonable for what the bass is. But even if i sold both my current Alembics for street value (not trade value) I'd be several grand short. Oh well ... maybe someday I'll actually ORDER my own. One can always dream! (Isn't like I'm suffering now with a Persuader and an Epic. ... funny how fast we get spoiled! :-) Anyway JP thanks for the welcome!
