I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my brown bass with CVQ's or the 3 position Q switches of a Series I?

Thanks,
Kevin

3 position yes, CVQ nope. You could send in your electronics and we can modify them.

The only thing dad has asked me to never sell again is CVQ on anything that isn't a Series. I must respect his wishes.

OK - I'll bite... What is a CQV?

Mica, How about retrofitting signature electronics to an Orion -- is that able to be done (and at what cost?).

Kind Regards,
Sean.

CVQ = Continuously Variable Q.

There are three types of Q controls, and here's what I think I remember from previous discussions. The standard two position switch is either off or provides 8db boost. The three position switch found on Series I instruments is 0/+6db/+9db boost. The CVQ found on the Series II instruments allows you to select any boost between 0 and +15db with a dial.

Based on posts I've seen on the site, it may not be possible on an Orion. Series electronics take up so much room, that they have to route-out the instrument and there just may not be enough room left on your bass. If they can do it, you can bet it will be EXPENSIVE, LOL! Especially with shipping to and from Oz and the value of the AUD versus the USD. Just my $0.02.

Cheers

So, bsee, if I were to upgrade my Anniversary elecs to a 3-position Q than I'd only be gaining +1 and -2 db of boost than I have now?

Would that even be audible? Do ya'll think it would it be worth it?

Thanks,
Kevin

I guess it must be noticeable, else they wouldn't bother. Remember that +3 dB will double the effect, -3 dB will halve it. So with 8+1=9 dB and 8-2=6 dB your options are: (1) a bit more than what you now have, and (2) half of your new maximum boost.

The Q switch on my Spoiler is being reconfigured, because the standard +8 dB is much too twangy to my ears. Same reason why I don't like the Essence package: Q boost is always on. Mine will probably end up as a 0/+3/+6 dB configuration - some options are still under discussion.
