I would like to know if there might be any issues regarding a J width neck on an MK Standard or Deluxe model, standard body shape. Specifically a neck with a comfort taper but 1.5" at the nut. Would it require more neck lams for stability? Ebony instead of purple heart? Would the crown headstock be out of the question and the cone shape be preferable? Questions questions questions.... |

No issues with a 1.5" nut on a Signature Standard or Deluxe. In fact, we do it all the time on the Stanley Clarke models now, and it's not uncommon as a custom request on other models. Here's a cone peghead on a 1.5" Stanley: We tend to place the strings sorta close to the edge of the fingerboard for some people. The usually edge allowance(the space between the edge of the string and the edge of the fingerboard) is .15 inches. There's a bigger edge allowance on a Fender Jazz bass, so the strings are actually farther apart on ours, even though the overall width matches. Make sense? It's no charge to make it anything you want, you just have to specify it of course. |

I think I've seen pics of basses with this style peghead and some appear to be smaller, although that may not be the case. Do you make them in different sizes? |

There are smaller ones for sure, but we wouldn't pair a smaller peghead shape with the Balance K body except by special request, and then we'd need to sketch it out and see if the proportions really worked. The bass in this thread has a smaller version of the Crown peghead, but everything is scaled down on that bass. |
