I intend to order a custom Essence bass with a triple omega body similar to the bass pictured in this thread: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/2047.html?1089598447 As far as tops go, I'm going to go with either redwood burl, superb walnut, or flame koa. I'm not sure about the rest of the woods, but I want something with as much sustain as possible without being too heavy, and alot of clarity. |

I've done some studying up on woods, and I've decided on a Bubinga/Ebony/Wenge/Ebony/Wenge/Ebony/Bubinga neck, an Ebony fretboard, Bubinga body wings, and then probably a redwood top, either flame or burl, to compliment the reddish bubinga. (Message edited by jpj678 on January 25, 2005) |

Hi Tim, Welcome to the club. Your bass sounds like it'll be very sweet. One thing though, I'm not sure that there's room for the third omega cut on the Essence body style. Other than that, I think it sounds great. |

Hollis, you can use the Essence as a 'platform' and choose which ever shape suits you.... Sounds to me like you're going for that Warwick / Ibanez style neck w/ all dark woods... Im not sure when the last time was that Alembic used Bubinga or Wenge as a neck laminate, anyone?!? Is flame koa even available nowadays?!?

Pace; I believe what Hollis is refering to is that the bass in the picture referenced above has an Essence body with two side omegas. Tim stated he wanted to order a bass with a body similar to the one in the picture. Thus, while the bass in the picture is referred to as a Triple Omega Essence, there is really only room for two Omegas. And like you, I don't recall seeing an Alembic with Bubinga or Wenge in the neck either. However, I do seem to have some faint recollection that Mica mentioned something about coming across a nice piece of flame Koa every once in a while. |

Mike, I was looking at: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/2047.html?1089598447 and even though the thread is titled Triple Omega, It looks more like a Double Omega to me... That's what I was commenting about, although, as usual, I may have been less than clear..... Take care. |

About the koa, I think they have a certain amount of what Mica referred to as watermark koa. It's not as nice looking as flame koa, but I think the top on my Spoiler is the watermark variety and I wouldn't call that boring either. The best characterisation I can come up with is that watermark koa is more "atmospheric" than the "graphic" flame koa. Rob Allen is building his Deep 4 and Deep 5 models almost completely from koa |

the woods sounds more like a Warwick than anything else and it does seem like the bass will weigh a ton Dave |
