I have an alembic 6 string custom bass that I purchased second hand. Pics are posted on the owning an alembic discussion board. While the bass looks to be in excellent condition it is in need of some TLC!

The finish on the neck is completely worn away on the back of the neck at the point where the body is joined to the neck. The finish is completely gone and the wood is actually discoloured.

The bass was discussed with a fellow called Jimmy Moon of Moon guitars in Glasgow and he recommended a complete refinish of the instrument because of the fact that the refinish could not be done without being visible on the bass. It was him who suggested that I ask you if you might be able to refinish the bass, how long it might take, and what it might cost.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Michael.

Hi Micheal. No sign of your pics anywhere. After we met last week, i mailed your requirements to a guitar tech friend in Roslin (yep, that's right - where they clone things!!). I've not heard back from him yet.

Michael, you may want to email Mica or Val directly about a refinish.

I think it takes atleast 8 weeks, if they are not busy.

Also, you would have to ship it to the states and Customs on the return leg are notorious for holding back shipments without a purchase value as they reckon over half the stuff privately imported are fraudulently described as repairs/returns and the like.

Jimmy's guitars are all finished to a high standard. Could he not do this for you?

Mike

I am having a bass refinished right now at Alembic. I am looking at an 8 week turn around give or take a week or two. The cost is around $1100.00 but you would need to verify with Val or Mica. By the way, welcome to the club and good luck with your six string project.
