I was wondering if it's realistically possible to send an instrument back to Santa Rosa to have sideLEDs retrofitted, have an inlayed logo added and a refinish? By realistically I mean that it depends on how much such upgrades are gonna chop up my bass budget off course. Somebody ever send back their bass or guitar for 'upgrades' like this? I'd appreciate all reactions, but especially if Val or Mica could tell me more about how painful (time, effort and $$$) this operation would be. I'm considering this for my 1991 EVH-4...

Thanks!

Hi Wilfred, I'm thinking of getting some work done to my 1980. I've talked to Mica and for what it's worth here are some prices for work to my bass. A refinish $1150, side LEDs $1000 plus $550 for the fingerboard replacement which is part of the LED work. I would add about $300 for aspirin to get you through the check writing and long wait.

Good luck, Gary.

The logo inlay is $950 and is best done while refinishing. The rest of the prices are correct. Additionally, you usually have to buy a new case when you get a refinish. We've had 2 instances of us doing a wonderful job, and then an old case allows shipping damage. We don't want to have to face that heartbreak again.

Turnaround depends on what else is going on at the time. It shouldn't be longer than a new build at the worst. It's best to get good communication before sending your bass in, then we can schedule it even before you ship it, and we'll also be on the lookout.

My dilemma is that I just love the yellowing of the finish on the Maple (neck and body, which reminds me that I still have to add pictures of the back to my Showcase entry for this bass) and it also gives the flame Walnut top a very nice & quite unique reddish appearance. I assume that for the installation of the sideLEDs and the fingerboard replacement a total refinish is obligatory, so both financially and visually that creates doubts and makes it less desirable to perform on my bass.
