I've been playing my Series I guitar quite a lot at home recently and as I've been calibrated for stratocasters for ever, I find myself instinctively reaching for the trem that isn't on my series guitar so I wondered what it would look like with a skyway. I've seen one other small body with a Khaler trem on it but it didn't float my boat but the skyway looks less in your face and more aesthetic while being well engineered. Hmm maybe a Bigsby could work too...

As a side issue and because its the Dreaming for now thread, does anyone know whether my guitar would be seized under CITES if I shipped it to the mica to have a skyway fitted? The inlay has reclaimed ivory in it and the body is coco bolo and the ebony neck. Would I have to get some kind of declaration from alembic to clarify where the bits came from?

I'm sold on the Skyway. I spec'd one for the Spectrum guitar I plan to have built as soon as my finances recover from the Series II hit earlier this year.

It's a real precision piece of craftsmanship - functional as well as visually pleasing. The top-mount design would work well with a neck-through instrument. As such, it would be the prefect compliment to an Alembic.

Re: CITES - Every person I speak with has a different interpretation of those regulations, so probably best to talk to Susan about the logistics of navigating through that little hornet's nest...

I'm pretty sure the point is moot - your guitar is likely 1.65 inches think and the Skyway demands a 1.75 inch thick body. You can confirm the measurement with calipers.

Coco Bolo on finished goods is OK to ship. I think the ivory bits would be a real issue.

Yeah those old ivory teeth are the things that made me wonder. I guess I'm pretty fortunate that it made the journey from the states to the UK without being seized.

But then, it may have been checked and deemed ok by customs at USA or UK borders. Whatever the case it does make me wonder about being able to sell it on in the future outside the UK and who would legally be at a loss financially if it was seized by customs under CITES during shipping, buyer or seller. Maybe I could get a faux fingerboard to cover the inlay fixed with some semi permanent glue and send it off. :-)

Anyway sale is a long way off... i think :-)
