I've been thinking about taking the guts out of my superfilter and putting them in my Starfire. It's really the only bass that I totally love it on and my rack doesn't have space for it and it's pretty heavy in its case. It's so tempting. Edwin | ||

Wouldn't that involve a lot of woodwork? It would be a shame if the Starfire were to suffer from the surgery. | ||

It's actually just a question of drilling enough holes for the knobs, which would be an additional 2 from what's already there (I have the ACG filter preamp in there now). I already have a door cut in the back to access the electronics, so it looks like the SF-2 circuit board would fit easily and could be screwed into the top. The real labor would be removing the pots from the circuit board and mounting them to the top and doing all the wiring to them. Not too bad. I'd also have to rig up a multipin XLR system to deliver power. Not rocket surgery! :-) Edwin | ||

I had a Guild Starfire with twin Superfilters. I say do it! You will find that you will never get the same sound twice. | ||

Good idea, Dave! I'll do that. It will be my Christmas break project, as I have no gigs for a couple of weeks. While I am in there, it would probably be best to build the copper shielding box. Michael, did you find that you could get out of trouble by just backing off the filter gains? I don't mind not getting the same sound twice (although haven't found it to be that hard to do with the rackmount setup). Edwin | ||

Edwin, how's that starfire doin' ? Michael...I find few other's with experience with 2 sf-2's at once; were they wired in stereo or quad? I've cut an access door into a 80's Aria to try different things on with no hesitation(it's a nice guitar but not a valuable one). One of my first experiments was/is to solder a high E string along the top side of each fret as a ground for led's that light when contact is made to the strings. The solder and string and 2volts or so through my fingertips is unnoticable. pending is installation of a DOD psycho-acoustic stomp box.... ...nuts is fun  | ||

I haven't actually done much with it different (aside from a really nice new brass nut courtesy of Matt at Woodsong's Lutherie). I decided that I like being able to use the Superfilter with other basses as well. These days I'm spending more time playing it than working on it! Edwin | ||

i understand completely... I'm working on a website...just beginnining it...I'll devote a section to modded and prototype type ideas and pics... I'll look forward to sharing creativity that's been in the attic of my mind. (one of my favorites is a tenor banjo I have replaced the skin with a large plastic magnifying glass that the strings straddle just right to make the sitar buzz...no bridge visible...and just a little skew to it to have each string intonated pretty close...I have to be careful to keep it out of the sun!!! ) "take it easy,but take it"...pete seeger | ||

Interestingly, either would be correct. The quote "this world is your world, take it easy but take it!" apparently appeared in the Woodie Guthrie Songbook of 1945, not as part of a lyric but just a quote from Guthrie; and the phrase is apparently often ascribed to him. The phrase "take it easy, but take it" is the last line of Talking Union, written in 1941 and credited to Millard Lampell, Lee Hays and Pete Seeger. That song was first performed by the Almanac Singers, which were Woodie Guthrie, Lee Hays, Millard Lampell and Pete Seeger. | ||

ahh..thanks dave...I'm a youngin'.. I heard it for the first time on a public radio interview( must have been pete seeger as I remember he was talkin' about the origins of the hammer song)concerning a chaotic couple of weeks performing at Peteskill (notsure about the spelling) NY... and those were his kind parting words. I was 1 0r 2 when I first heard Obi Yoyo ...love that till forever, thanks again dave |
