Hi to all Alembic Users
I like the typical sound of Stanley Clarke, as in the song "Wild Dog"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI_NLUhc1Ss

Stanley plays an Series II and i ordered a Stanley Clarke Signatur Standard with Signature Electronics. Is it possible to stop this typical sound with the Signature standard of play?
Or need I the Series II Electronins?

I remember, He use as tenor bass (ADGC) in "Wild Dog".
You need tenor strings set.

In my opinion, these sounds are different some points.
My Medium scale basses have different construction. (20th Anniv. Standard body S1, Small body S1)
Of course, both Circuit have Alembic Filter sound, but Series circuit has wide dynamic range.

Body construction is most important for sound that I think.
Large body cavity creates deep sounds.
My Small body S1 sound is similar to Stanly's than other basses.

Hi Ulf,

Mica left very interested post on this thread.
Stanly's Vermilion Series I bass has .030 - .040 - .065 -.080 strings.
(Mica said "I remember this being tuned DGCF.")
May be the bass was played at "Wild Dog live NSJ 2004" that Pierre pointed out.
Yea! Just the sound was made by .030 to .080 strings. (Not Piccolo strings)

Eiji,

thanks for this interesting information!
I call my dealer in Germany and ask him for 030-080 strings, cause I ordered the Piccolo Strings.

LaBella makes a .030-.080 set - here they are at juststrings.com - have fun! I like experimenting with different strings - whether it's called tenor or piccolo or whatever...

Hi Ulf, regards from Berlin, I´m a Stanley-Fan since my very beginning of playing bass and I know almost all of his records. As far I can say you need at least a Series I to get the typical sound of him, there are also a few different things in his gear I do have an opinion about.
You can write me an e-mail if you want and I´ll send you my tel.-number,
Peter

hi Peter,
thanks so lot for your message
yes, Stanley plays the S1, but its to expansive for me, so I have ordered the SC Signature Standard and I hope to get a similar sound. Maybe I buy later the SF-1...
Now I`m waiting for my new and first Alembic...hope I get it in the next weeks.
Will send you a picture.

Sounds exciting Ulf! I also just bought a Stanley Clarke Signature Standard, but a five-string. It's a great bass - I know you will love yours! Make sure to post pictures in the Showcase section when you get it!

I play the same, I have d'Addario EXL 170 M 80, 60, 45, 32 tuned ADGC; I use only 80, 60, 45, I give the 100 and I buy one 32 alone.
For Labella's, I don't like stainless steel sound.
I have the same sound with my SC deluxe, F1-X, yamaha power amp and SWR goliath senior!

NB: Stanley play actually with his band TENOR bass ADGC.

Here's a cool video of School Days by the Clarke/Duke Project. He's playing either a tenor or piccolo - I thought I had it figured out, but I forgot! Notice where he plays the various riffs - I bet you can figure out the tuning he's using, either ADGC or DGCF?

Also, Pierre, could you post a link to your video of you at an outdoor soundcheck? At least I think it was you - I thought you really nailed the Stanley sound in that one!
