Brittle would translate to fragile in French although it is not the exact same meaning in English.

I'm thinking about african blackwood for the core, neck laminates, top and back. What about the weight ?

I can imagine the weight would exceed 13 or 14 pounds. Extremely heavy.

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean with "baf" or "feel as dark core" maybe you can rephrase?
The weight of course has many variables, but don't you have an MK4 Balance K in Maple?

Pierre-Yves,
You can choose what ever retailer you wish. This is true whether they are in Europe or the United States. I do not know the rules for Europe but in the US the maximum discount a dealer can give is 25% off of the retail price. I know of several European members that have purchased their basses from US dealers due to favorable exchange rates.

Pierre-Yves,
As I put in my last update the best price you can get is 25% off of the retail price. This means most dealers will offer you the same or close to same price for an instrument.

I sent you a private e-mail last autumn listing two dealers I have dealt with. The sales price was the same from both so I purchased from the dealer who I was most comfortable doing business with.

Remember that you will be paying import taxes (could easily be 30% of declared value) and TVA (over value AND taxes).

Hi all and thanks for answer. For Keith, I saw your mail but there are significant difference for prices.
For Adriaan: I know that because I imported 4 basses soon in Europe from US. Here the TVA taxe is 7,6%.

Hi Pierre-Yves,

I've not been available this week as I was hosting our Japanese distributor Monday-Wednesday. I have forwarded the emails you sent today to my mother, who is preparing the price quotes for the dealer you selected.

I have the same African Blackwood piece available as shown on my post number 6091.

The FTC thread gets started once something has happened in the shop that I can take a picture of, so that will have to wait until that time, but since I know you want to see it, when it starts, I will send you an email.

As for your Koa Series repair, it's currently having the electronics worked on, then we will address the frets and the rest. The work is going according to the schedule we discussed.

Great Mica.
How may I have optic impression (?) of the top and back ? and the estimated or approximative weight ?
And my question about body ?

For members, here are my specifications:
1/ short scale 30,3/4 inches, 4 strings, right handed, fretted
2/ 3 neck laminates african blackwood/maple
3/ black thaitian MOP (example with pictures?)
4/ side leds amber
5/ crown peghead with bevel front and back
6/ top, back, body and continuous back plate + truss rod cover with african blackwood (estimated weight versus coco bolo ?) Best would be black tincted mahogany body ?
7/ gold plated hardware with bird tailpiece
8/ inlaid logo with shell
9/ gold shaller machine heads
10/ little larger maple on body as show with attachment picture, but not change body specification.
11/ neck/body dimensions the same standard as my 2004 model, not the new 2009 neck dimension.
12/ standard polyester gloss finish
13/ serie I electronics
14/ a raisonable term of schedule

AND of course:
centered tailpiece and adjustable truss rods both way (direction) to be efficient to correct the neck.

Only one truss rod is possible ? what you think about ?

Wow, this thread is dated... This goes back to the days I was Hendixclarke LOL...

Anyway, this should be a interesting build to say the least, and I look forward to a FTC with many pictures. This bass will probably be a Dragon bass (2012) "Year of the Dragon". That's awesome!

Make it happen!

Peace and Love,

Mica, please, may you post a picture of a beveled peghead and not beveld peghead ?
I asked too for MOP pictures because I'm not sure what is black thaitian MOP.
I want the usually MOP.

... I was looking on Keith bass (congratulation :-) ) and now I hesitate between gold plated or chrome hardware...

Thank's in advance

Pierre-Yves - Oreo is the famous chocolate cookie. It has dark black for the top and bottom, with some very light vanilla cream in the middle. Supposed to taste great after you dip it in milk.

Here's an example of the peghead bevel:

a bevel

You've got examples of a peghead without a bevel on each of the Alembics you currently have.

This shows the gold hardware pretty well.

And here's one for the chrome hardware.

For the black mother of pearl, this image shows a range of colors:

black mop

The color is a smoky gray, but still can flash out to pinks and greens like regular white mother of pearl. Each of these pieces will look different. Here's the same inlays above, from a slightly different angle:

black mop

Hope this helps.

Yes it's help me and do trouble too... I was speaking with my wife and Tony, I would prefer chrome (not for cost, but for somthing sober with black wood...), difficult to decide...
For inlays, definitely abalone.
For peghead, definitely beveled.

The bass is paid, I'm waiting now for wood's choice for the top and back. Maybe Mica will be able as soon as she can the FTC thread ?

NOTA BENE: I want the maple whitest possible, or clearest possible.

Here is the piece of wood the bass will be cut in.

Sorry for my approximative english :-)

The question now is: who begin the FTC thread, Mica or me and what title we will give to it ?

Pierre-Yves's Black Short Scale series II with series I electronic ?
No, too long... :-)

This promises to become a wonderful bass. Blondie will be keeping an eye on its progress, she seems to like "dark".
But why "Series II with Series I electronics" instead of just Series I?

This bass will become a great bass yes but become THE bass I have imagined in the begenning of this thread.
My options tend to series II (7 piece neck laminated, logo with shell) but I don't need a series II.
