Hello, Im looking to buy (order) an Essence within the next couple months, and I love the Knobby peghead, and I like how I think it would look on the Essence body shape. Size wise though, Does anyone know if it is larger than the "Cone" shape head stock, meaning is the knobby headstock proprtionate to the Essence body? Also does anyone know what a purpleheart accent would cost? (under the top laminate) Thanks for your input tom |

Tom- Having owned a standard Essence with a cone headstock, and having a knobby and 2 crowns hanging on my wall right now, I can, with some authority, say that the knobby is noticeably smaller than either cone or crown. I'll attempt to post a pic with the crown and knobby side-by-side. As for the cost of accent laminate, I'll defer to Mica or the newest Alembic employee, our own Valentino. C-Ya...............wayne |

Hi Wayne, Thanks for your input , it seems like the knob head is larger for some reason!.... it would be very much appreciated if you posted a pic! whenever you have a free moment, I am still working out details for my bass, it looks like I will be ordering within the next 6-8 weeks though. thanks - Tom |

Go to the Showcase section of this board, then into the Epic Basses folder, and into "Flame Maple Epic joins the fold". I'm hold two Epics, one with a standard cone and the other with a knobby headstock. Mike |

Very nice basses Mike, Thanks alot!!!. I have made up my mind that I am defnitely getting the "knobby" Headstock. but I was hoping to get some info as to the following items as well. Instead of the essence shape I was thinking of getting another excel I love the way it balances and it just feels very comfortable to me but perhaps someone knows, what if any extra cost I would incur with the following options. 1) Maple neck w/Purpleheart pinstripes 2) Ebony Fingerboard 3) Mahagony body - w/purpleheart accent thanks - tom |

hello Tom, there's something I wanted to make sure of: did you mean purpleheart laminates or pinstripes? The laminates would run you an extra 300$. I'm not sure about the pinstripes. I believe the mahogany body with purpleheart stripe is no extra charge, but Mica's got the final word on that. The Ebony fretboard might run you a few extra hundred; I can't give you a better answer right now , since I haven't run across anyone who requested it before. Mica will be able to answer all this in better detail. I just started working at Alembic last week, so I still have (quite) a few things to learn. If you are still curious about how a knobby looks on an Essence, one of my basses is a modified Essence with a knobby headstock :http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/2047.html?1037581045 Valentino |

Hello Valentino, you have a very Beautiful Bass, You actually gig with that thing!!! It would make me very nervous For the neck I wanted purpleheart pinstripes in place of the walnut that would be standard I believe, please see the link below http://www.alembic.com/img/olb5purpleheart_neck.jpg, price is definitely a concern but there are some items I know I want. Again I know i said I had wanted an Essence body but i am leaning more toward an Excel right now. The options Im looking at right now are pretty much: Superb Flame Walnut top purpleheart pinstripes (instead of walnut) Mahagony body w/ pupleheart accent ebony fingerboard knobby headstock Congratulations to you by the way !!!!!! and good luck with your new job Im sure its a blast. - Tom |

Hello again Tom, thanks for the kind words about my bass. A couple of corrections on the prices you have listed. The silver script with logo is 200$ not 70$; the epic/orion electronics, on the other hand are no charge. The Excel now comes standard with 2 pickups, a fat boy at the bridge and a regular mxy at the neck, glossy finish is also standard. Valentino |

Hello, Thanks for letting me know, it only ups the price another $30 so Im still a happy camper. Hmmm so no more single pickup Excels? wow.... perhaps I have a rarer bass than I previously thought. thanks again - tom |
