So today while I was playing my Epic, I had an idea - what if I could have some sort of inlay like Jerry's Tiger and Rosebud, as well as many of the custom tributes, placed on my Epic? Does anybody know if this would be at all possible, and how much time/money it would take to have done? Thanks for any input. -Connor EDIT: the inly wouldn't be in the same location as on Jerry's... it would probably be above the pickups/bridge. I'm just guessing here, but as far as time is concerned I can see two of the factors being how elaborate the inlay is and how many other custom inlays are in the queue. It's been my observation just reading the FTC threads that elaborate inlays generally involve a lot of back and forth between the shop and the customer nailing down the artwork. And my guess is that there is a queue for the artwork and a queue for cutting the pieces and assembling them in the instrument. For some designs there may be test work with materials to make sure they work together to achieve the desired end result, and maybe a mockup to make sure the final design works. All of this is to say that my guess is that a custom inlay can take some time. As for cost, there would be the time for the artwork, all the back and forth with designs coming up with the final agreed upon design, and the time for the craftwork, cutting the pieces, routing the instrument, gluing everything together. And of course, the materials; the abalone, mop, ebony, etc. that are required to achieve the finished design. And I'm guessing that a body inlay would necessitate a refinish as well. I suppose a very rough idea of the ballpark might be gleaned from the custom quote generator. For instance, starting with a Europa and adding a two initial mop and silver oval neck inlay; and maybe an inlaid logo with shell; and then on the high side, a dragon inlay. Again, I'm just guessing. As Keith suggested, if you're thinking this is something you would like for your Epic, I would imagine they could do it, but you would need to call Mica or Susan to discuss cost and time. |
