Hello all, I am the original owner of a '77 Series 1. I also have made a few Warmoth-Type basses that have turned out very well. Whether it's because of age related aches and pains, or large palms, I am very comfortable with a P Bass neck compared to a closer string spacing and smaller S1neck. Alembics will show all your flaws, and I find this neck helps my clarity and definition. So here I am, with all this great equipment, wondering what to do. Any advice? I forgot to mention that I have one Great Warmoth type "Jazzembic" with Anniversary electronics/hummers with a Fatboy Bridge-absolute killer tone, but should have an Alembic body around it. |

Not exactly a P-bass, but when I had my custom Further built, I brought my old Strat up to Alembic and had them copy it. I too found the string spacing on the standard shape a little narrow for my taste. Bill, tgo |

Marco, good to hear from you!!! My Elan+ fretless has that P-bass spacing. The width along with the extra reach initially caused some pain, but it's been six years now, it's my main gigging bass... I wouldn't trade it for anything. Switching from that over to the 32" Koa of mine that we A/B'ed at the NE gathering makes digging in that much easier..... Going from your "Jazzembic" over to your BEAUTIFUL S1, I'm surprised you don't feel the same way! |

Hey Bud, I have this blues band, and we're gigging this summer. I am so much more comfortable with a P size neck, plus the joint at the base of my left hand thumb has an issue developing to increase the discomfort.I have played around and tried a P bass neck on the Jazzembic, and it allows me to dig in and be very clear too. My thoughts are to either sell the S1 or use the guts, OR have a new body built around the anniversary guts in the Jazzembic. You never heard it, it's a chambered mahogany body with a Flame koa top. I use and swr head w/410's and 115. I have read articles about s1 electronics versus signature, but I can tell you that the added volume in place of a pan has a major tonal change. I had another similar setup in a swamp ash body, but with a pan and it's night and day in the sound dept. Then there is the cost factors....show me a picture of yours please. |
