Been researching basses and then I saw her. How hard is it to find an Essence for a decent price?

I depends entirely on your definition of "decent price". I paid ~$2100 (used) for my 4 string Essence. I've generally seen them in the ~$2000 range. Prices vary based on condition and options.

That said: $1500 for a 5-string in Nashville

Hi Hayden, welcome to the club!

You might visit the » Swap Shop and Wish Lists » Seen on craigslist, eBay, and elsewhere section from time to time, where members will post instruments they see on the market.

Hayden,
I have a 5 string Essence that i love the sound of. It has a very piano like tone. I also have a Series I and my Essence comes pretty close. A good choice if you ask me. Good luck in your search.

I have an epic -4 and have my eye on a essence -4
what i need to know is can the essence produce a huge sound. right now i have been playing a modulus flea, i need the essence to be a flea and more if that makes sense, as well i have been using a lakland dj-4 it has a small body i think it could compare to body size of the essence. i have purchased many basses looking for a little more power than my epic however it was my first bass and the epic was better than all others until the flea (however the epic is still better in some ways ) i am not a slapper so that was not my goal with the flea it just has a huge presence and can be played with a light touch and move some serious air, in a band setting i need to have enough to over power, but never do just need the flex if req. anyway what will the essence do for me will it make me want to sell 11 or 12 others ?

The sound of my Essence 4 is loved by all of my musical co -conspirators ! I played various Bass's for a few different gig situations both live gig and studio work with a song writer for a demo project recently. I played a modified Fender Jazz Bass with a Schaller bridge and Bartolini pickups . I played an Alembic Series II and I played my sweet little Essence . They all loved the Essence 4 all most as much as the Series II . Of course the Series II made their jaws drop with WOW factor , however the Essence is accepted as that is what we like as representation to the Bass sound we want in our demo. So I have been asked for future sessions , bring the Essence or the Series II ,we love them both! I really like My Essence ! It is really light and it has a HUGE sound !

There seem to be quite a few Epics on Craigslist and ebay . Depending on the condition of yours and its good selling points I would make a decision as to what you can get for it . It seems I have been seeing many for about $1200 USD to $1500 USD or so perhaps a bit more. Essence seem to be around $1500 USD and up ____ The used market in the USA I find at this time has been a bit low perhaps as a reflection of the economic climate at this time . Now is the time to buy used.

In all honesty I never played an Epic. I suggest that you play an Essence and determine if it meets your personnel criteria in comparison .

where i live you can try out a fender or a gibson or
maybe a ibenez ,,,,, i bought my epic , modulus, lakland , tobias . warwick, 69-p, all on the observations of others. playing an essence is not an option, the epic , modulus and lakland are all great
basses but i can sell 12 others, in review the essence just sounds so good.

I should add that If you are going to be playing multiple set live stand up gigs the Essence is a dream of a Bass due to its light weight .

Haha, I appreciate everthing guys. Lots of reassurance. I guess I just need to go out and have some testing sessions w/ different basses. The nearest alembic dealer is 300 miles away though.
