Jurgen has been lobbying the folks at Schaller in Germany about having the original M4 Schaller tuners reissued. If you don't know, the original tuners had the anchor screw out the bottom, and later the anchor faced toward the center of the peghead.

Nobody cared unless you wanted to change a worn machine head on an old collectible bass. Presently, you have to be lucky enough to find a vintage tuner. We hope to show Schaller that there's enough folks needing this old part that they will start making them again.
