Here are a few quick pics of my new (to me) 1998 vermillion-topped left-handed Orion 4 string. Big thanks to Mica and the gang for all their help. The day I got it I called and spoke to Susan, and a couple days later I called and spoke to Mica for a good 15-20 minutes about a setup issue I was having. Not a huge deal, but considering I bought it used which didn't give them a dime out of the deal it was pretty cool. I'm very happy with it. In every way it is a professional quality instrument. I understand what everyone says about the clear tones these basses produce. I almost sent back my recently purchased Turbo Tuner strobe tuner because I thought it was defective. It wouldn't "lock in" with my old basses when I played a note and tried to tune. First time I tuned up the Orion, it worked perfectly! I realized that the other basses weren't clear enough, the fundamental was weak and overpowered by the harmonics, and it confused the tuner. Not the case with my Orion. It is literally a visual representation of the clear tone Alembics produce. I think I've got the setup pretty dialed-in. The many threads here were a big help. Funny thing, it came from the previous owner with Alembic strings. I honestly didn't like them at all. Put on a set of DR hi beams and played it for about a week. Couldn't get the setup right. One day it was too high, next it was too low. Also couldn't get happy with the sound of the strings. Still had the Alembic strings laying around, so I figured what the heck, I'll try em again. WOW!!! Setup is dialed, and the tone is great! It's like the bass wants these strings! I'll definitely be buying more. While I'm very happy with my new bass, I can definitely see the Filter/Q-switch upgrade in the near future. Sorry for the long post. Hope you guys like the pics (Message edited by smalls on March 27, 2011) |
