Hi Rami, i saw them already as the "Custom of teh Month": they are beautiful and the story behainf the "twin" is great. I also learned that the dark prince is "maple-less"??. A little suggestion to anyone considering a custom Alembic...you really should have your name inlaid somewhere on it. You just can't imagine the feeling that comes over me each time I hold one of the twins and see my name. It's very moving...an Alembic Masterpiece, personalized. That'll really make them family heirlooms! | ||

I certainly won't forget that the next time. The first question I'm asked whenever showing off my Alembic and saying I had it custom built is: "Where is your name engraved at?" Once I get my next one...I may part with my Mark King for a little bit to have her personalized with my name also. Definitely great advice for anyone in the future, Rami. Whenever anyone sees the twins, I think just seeing my name inlaid on them adds to their mystique as Super-Exotic custom made Alembic masterpieces. The first reaction they always get is a big, loud "WOW!" There's never any doubt about what they are or who the owner is! Probably one of the best feelings I've ever had. | ||

Hey Mickey, I've had my name engraved on the truss rod cover on my customs. I'll bet you can send yours back to Alembic and they'll engrave it for you. Heck, you can take it to "Things Remembered" (the keosks in just about any mall) and they'll do it for you. Rami.....nice pic. Stoney | ||

Hey Rami, nice collection. I had a question about the two pickup vermillion Excel. I was wondering how the fatboy sounds in the bridge position compared to the the regular position and how it compares to a MXY in the bridge? I was also wondering if you think, in your own honest opinion, that a sustain block really works. | ||

Hi Michael, In the bridge position on its own, the Fatboy still sounds great. It has a wide aperture so it still really growls. In fact, I credit it for the bass's great harmonics. The difference in tone between that bass and the other Excels is still rather subtle, because the pickups are so close together. But it still has has that little something extra in its sound. I also feel that any feature to increase a bass's sutain is always welcome. One of my Essence's (a '93 with standard electronics) doesn't have the sustain block. It let's me make a direct comparison in sound with my other Essences. You can hear the contribution made by the sustain block. | ||

Hi Rami, a question that pops up in my mind. I know I don't have to compare playing styles, techniques and experience here but still I wonder how you made the "bridge" from playing 34" scale instruments to 36" (or 35"). ONe of the idea's I had for my future (Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-aaaar future) project (the humble bass/The tooth) is to have a 35 or 36 scale fretless with wider spacing. I'm a little scare about hopping from my 34" extra wide fretted scale on "Bonnie" to something completely new. Or shouldn't I worry? BTW: I started to think about "The Tooth" in Excel template but from time to time I start wondering about Rogue. Because I definitely want it neck-through and bookmatched to center. Hi Paul, I have pretty long fingers. When I made the jump to 36" scale, I really didn't notice a big difference. Only when playing for an extended period did I notice my hands were a little sore. But that went away with time. If you have small hands, 36" scale probably isn't for you. If you get the chance to try one, I highly recommend it before you end up with something you can't play comfortably. But I love the added tension in the strings and of course, the amazing sustain and harmonics. It was defintely worth it for me. Cheers! Rami | ||

rami looks like ebony laminate on some of the necks do you notice a big difference? am thinking bout doin a rogue custom and wondering to do purpleheart or go for the gusto couold you email directly thanks jeff |
