I know that the pickups on Series Basses and guitars are true single coils and the rest are hum cancelling pickups so there is a difference in sound based on the different pickup types, but is there any difference in the filter circuits between models? From what I read in the threads the range is the same on all models 350Hz to 6kHz.

So my question really is, Am I right in thinking that the filters on a series instruments are also different to those found on signatures etc and have a finer resolution on the filter knob giving them the ability to select from a greater number of discrete frequencies within the upper and lower range of the filter span?

Since they are continuous controls, I don't see how you would get discrete frequencies. Any increase in resolution from an identical frequency sweep range would have to come from a pot with a greater amount of rotation. I doubt that the pots are that different. There might also be a difference in taper of the pot, but I'd be surprised if they used one taper for one set of electronics and another in a different set. It wouldn't make much design sense or economic sense in terms of having to stock different types of pots. However, I'm perfectly happy to be proven wrong!
