Hello Alembic Maniacs!
I spent a fair amount of time looking for just the right sound and finally found it in a used ’98 Essence. Love the size, weight, woods, finish, playability and most of all the variation in beautiful tones you can get out of this beauty. Fat buttery rich almost fretless type tones to perfect pitch piano type tones and everything in between. It’s truly a work of art, a Stratavarious of electric basses built with heirloom quality and begging to be played by a by a true professional. I’m not there yet but suspect I’ll get there faster with this in hand. My complements to the Alembic artisans that touched this bass and brought it to life. The petite body and sleek neckline of the blonde Essence complement my other love, a curvaceous auburn Pedulla fretless. Who could want more than a sweet petite blonde under one arm and a shapely soft voiced redhead under the other? Someday I may stray and add a raven haired macassar ebony series II to the harem, but for now I’m a two bass man loving the aural sensations that can only be found in a free flowing smooth rich bass line.
I’m not sure how many of the original 1998 team that crafted this Essence are still at Alembic but hats off to Ronald, Susan, Mica, Robert N., Mary, Mildred, Robert F., Steven, Eric, Tony G., Greg, Emily, James, Kris, Tony S., Stephanie, Sandra, Robert T., Dana, and Charles! I’m living out east right now but I’m originally from the SF Bay area, so I get back there every now and then. Next time I’m out your way I’ll schedule some time to stop by and say thanks to your wonderful team.
Here’s some pics of my ’98 Essence and ’95 Pedulla. The Essence is a Quilted Maple top with Purple Heart accent wood and Mahogany body. The neck is a 9 piece Maple and Walnut laminate with Ebony fretboard and Quilted Maple laminate head. Tuners are Gotohs, no inlays, and electronics are standard Essence Volume/Pan/Tone (Q switch to be added at a later date). Finish is Clear Gloss, serial number is 98K11542
Enjoy.
