Man that is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL thing I have ever seen! I'm especially fond of the bird tailpieces with actual tails. That will be something I get on my next Alembic! Wow, you are one lucky guy, Paul. |

The instrument is setup just like any Series I. The only addition is the extra knob right up by the bass neck’s tailpiece. That’s a two-way selector for the two necks. Like most Alembics, this guy is a sustain monster and without this toggle I’m sure it would generate lots of sympathetic string noise. Actually, I’ve had some fun selecting one neck and then playing the other just to generate the resonant tones. Just a little feature I’m sure didn’t make the functional specification. BTW: I also have the original flight case, outboard preamp and cable. The case has a green exterior and a great purple velvet lining. Only just makes it all the more perfect IMHO. -Paul |

Is that a Vermillion top? I was just looking at the July '02 featured custom "Crimson Tide" that is made of Vermillion and it made me think of this bass. Is it that much heavier than other woods? |

I’m not sure what the woods are piece-by-piece. Unfortunately, Alembic lost the paper-work on this one. I don’t think it’s vermilion as it’s more orange colored than red. Perhaps if anyone from Alembic is tuned into this thread they can comment. I’m also not sure about relative weights. The core on this bass is definitely mahogany and it’s pushing 17 lbs overall (it’s a real back-breaker over the long haul). I wouldn’t think that the top wood would matter that much weight-wise over the core IMO. |

That really must be one of the coolest things I have ever seen! The top looks like Shedua. It looks like the same top wood on my Series I. Mica pulled its records and found it for me. Hang on to that one - It's stunning! |

I think I heard somewhere that vermilion and shedua are the same thing. Likewise coco bolo and grenadillo. I'm more certain of the coco / grenadillo thing than the vermillion / shedua thing. ****FLAG ON THE PLAY**** I just remembered.....It's Vermillion and PADAUK that are the same. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. Peace, James (Message edited by malthumb on March 21, 2003) |

Thanks Rami: Yes - the next owner of this bass will be receiving it as part of my estate when I'm gone. Here are some more pictures. I'd like to upload larger ones but I think I'm not a "cool" enough Alembic Club user yet.

Rami: Send me an e-mail at paulboulet@hotmail.com and I’ll forward you some larger photos. My user permissions here at the club seem to limit the file size that I can upload.
