Hi all. This is my first Alembic. Just picked it up a few days ago from the fine kids at Bass Northwest. It plays and sounds as good as it looks. |

Hey Briant, welcome-welcome. I really like that knobby headstock with the triple O-cutouts. It's your first? Were you tempted before by this glorious brand?? Some kind of dream coming true or just hopped in the store and said "Hoh ...uhuh ...i like that one ...oh ...Alembic hey?!?!" Paul the bad one |

Welcome, Briant Bee-uuuu-tiful. I especially love the curved effect of the grain. I'm sure it takes the wood buyers some extra time to find pieces like that but it's worth the effort. Rich |

Briant: Welcome to the club and congratulations on your new bass! I know how you feel, having lusted for an Alembic for almost 30 years before picking up my first last summer (#2 is on the way). I'm guessing the top is Zebra wood? Very cool and unusual grain - I love the symmetrical curve! Play it in good health. Bill, the guitar one |

Briant Beautiful bass, I do like a nice piece of Zebrawood. Those must be store photos or else you have one heck of a rig. Enjoy it in good health. Sam |

Thanks for the welcome, all! To try and answer all the questions: Q: It's your first? A: Yep. This is my first Alembic. It's bass #7 that I currently have in the stable. I have 3 Mike Lull basses (M5, M4V, P4), a MM Sterling, a Hamer Chapparal 12-string, and a Modulus Q4. Q: Were you tempted before by this glorious brand?? A: Not really, no. I'm sure this is going to bring fire and brimstone upon me, but I historically have not been a huge fan of the necks on Alembic basses. I have always thought they sounded amazing. This particular bass (I was told) was made to the same specifications that JPJ gave Alembic when he ordered his. Hence, the neck is a bit different than the standard neck. The neck on this thing is sleek, fast, and feels very good in my hands. After playing it, I just had to own it. Q: I'm guessing the top is Zebra wood? A: Yep! I love the grain too! The curve in it really adds to the overall body shape and contour. Very nice, indeed. :-) Other body woods are purpleheart, maple, and a mahogany core. Q: Those must be store photos or else you have one heck of a rig. A: Those are store photos that Bass Northwest took. I'll eventually get some more pictures taken of it and post them here and/or on my website. I'm already thinking that it would be really, really cool to have an 8-string made to these same specifications. The GAS never ends. |

Briant, Beautiful bass that you picked up. I'm sure you will enjoy many years with your new purchase. I can only imagine that you had a seamless deal with Bass Northwest. I've purchased many an instrument through them and they are definitely top notch. Best Wishes, Bones |

Hey the pics won't load for me on any computer. I would love to see your bass. Myself being a huge JPJ fan am planning my next Alembic to be a Triple Omega series I or II. |

And now some thoughts after owning this bad boy for nearly 3 years: WOW. OK, now that I've said that I need to say it again, "WOW!!!". I have owned many basses over the years and I currently own 8. Nothing else sounds like this bass. Period. I've tried to get a few of my other basses to sound even remotely close and I just can't do it. This thing has a huge tone that is solid, clear, and when you want it to be it growls like a beast. Just nuts. I have been playing it exclusively at my gigs for the last 3 months or so and that was finally what made me order a custom 5 string. I just couldn't stand not have that tone on a 5 string anymore - especially since I'm primarily a 5 string player! So there you go! I've ordered and paid for the Rogue 5 string already and now I'm selling off most of my harem. I already don't play most of them live anymore and when the Rogue shows up I doubt I'll ever play any of them again - even my JPJ may start to feel neglected! |
