Ken, your Excel is stunning to say the lease. Mine has the same body woods but with a Pao Ferro finger board and I'm curious how much different the tone is with Ebony. Any idea?
Enjoy you bass.

Ken:

The walnut does indeed look superb. Beautiful bass. Looks like you've got a nice start on your collection. Watch out, Rami!

Yeah, the shoes are ebony lined with sustain block in the sole...

Boy, guess I should have photo-shopped the picture, but with lack of time lately, I just wanted to get some pix up.

I don't think the family can afford me to be in competition with Rami, so this will be it...for awhile, anyway.

Thanks for the complements, guys!

Hey Ken,

Congrats on your Excel, and I love that Rogue!
They're both spectacular. WOW!!!

If you're to have two Alembics, those are the ones to have!

I always loved the Excel for it's simplicity, it's sexy look, and it's MONSTER tone. Even in it's most basic format (one Fat Boy, Vol, Bass, Treble), it's one of the best Basses in the world. I'd be perfectly content having it as my only Bass.

Best wishes,

Rami

Rami:

I'm sure there are lots of members of the club that would be willing to help you reach "perfect contentment" by unselfishly taking the other basses off your hands. Even the higher-pitched contingent, like me. All you have to do is ask. We're here for you, brother. LOL!

That's a beautiful pair of Alembics Ken, your Excel looks great, but so does your Rogue! The Excel model is really starting to grow on me with fabulous examples like this one showing up. Love to see a picture of the back because of the Ph laminates, and a close-up of the 'elvish' initials...

Ken,
Beautiful instruments. There's something about Buckeye Burl that still drops my jaw everytime I see it.
On the Excel I love the look of the dark wood on the light body with the accent sandwich. Very nice.

Beautiful pair, Ken, the walnut on your Excel is indeed superb. The wood truss rod cover was a great idea.

Ok, here's a couple more for you all
Elvish Initials
Back View

The two basses sound VERY different, which is a good thing. The Rouge is Very clean sounding, and I find the Excel to be a little more...gritty, for lack of a better word.

Ken, that Excel looks fabulous! As does the Rogue of course (and the shoes!). I am extremely jealous! I'm very interested to hear your take on the sound of the 2 basses. I wonder why the Rogue is "cleaner" sounding? Of course as you say it's much better that they sound very different. They really do compliment each other visually, so it's great that they compliment each other sonically as well. They are absolutely beautiful anyway!

Best wishes

Shaun,

(sorry, I've tried to reply a couple of times and keep getting kicked out. I'll try to keep it clean, Honest!!)

I think "clean" may not be the best choice of words, it just has a more "sharp" high-end to it. Kind of an "eq smile" inherent in the neck-through. When you turn up the treble on the Excel, it just gets more aggressive sounding.

Alas, words, like pictures, do not do justice to these instruments.

Hi Ken! No worries with the post, I've not exactly been punctual replying and I've no excuse other than I never seem to be able to make time to post!

Regardless, I think I know what you mean re the basses. I have a set neck Rickenbacker 4000 and that seems more gritty and aggressive than my thru-neck Ricks. The Rick thru-necks are also more smiley-eq-ish.I'd happily swap one for another Alembic though; I do like those balanced Ks. Although a Rogue would be nice; or another Triple O, or.......ok I'll stop now!

Shaun,

You know, ordering another Alembic is probably the best thing. It's only money...and you'll make more, right? I highly recommend the Excel to justify the expense...it'll be very different than your Triple O, but still VERY cool.

Ken, I'd love to!! Unfortunately my girlfriend probably wouldn't be best pleased....maybe one day! (of course there's a small matter of cash too..)It's nice thinking about it though...

Might have missed the race here, but how much difference does the further neck-mounted front pickup make to the sound? My Excel 4 sounds great in stock configuration, just wondering if a few slight changes might sound better for a 5-string version.

Cheers,

EG
