I happened to have the day off from work Wednesday when a UPS tag appeared on my door, and I knew it could only be one thing... Excel 5 fretless Europa electronics Vermilion top Zebrawood accents w/purpleheart pinstripe Vermilion body Striped ebony fingerboard Mahogany/vermilion/purpleheart/ebony neck Chrome hardware & logo Side LEDs in green & amber (You can see she is in good company) (Look at that logo sparkle!) (They aren't carpeted backplates, they're just SUPER FREAKING SHINY CHROME) The pictures do not do justice to this instrument. It is the most beautiful looking and playing bass that I've ever laid hands on. My thanks to everyone in Santa Rosa for turning out another masterpiece. Isn't the Excel just the greatest Bass in the world? There's just something about it that does something for me. It was my first Alembic, and still my favorite. Congrats Adam - she's a beauty! Rami |

A set neck fretless with that combination of neck and body woods and the Europa controls has got to sound very nice! |

Adam: Very sweet! Especially the wood pick up covers and the neck. If this were mine I'd name it "Tasty". What effect of using mohagany instead of maple in the neck are you expecting? Bill, tgo |

Bill, I would think the mahogany would attribute to a bassier, darker tone. Maple is generally known for its brightness, and that is something I intentionally tried to avoid in this bass. With the vermilion body and set neck w/heavy woods, it has a lot of warmth and it packs a nice punch. Here's a couple grainy, blurry shots with the LEDs on: Adam P.S. - Thanks Tom! Thanks, Wilfred & Chris. The Epic has settled in nicely here, she gets plenty of attention and has nice friends to hang around with. This newest addition is a nice complement to a growing collection... now I just need a 6-string fretted & fretless, an 8-string, a piccolo... I'd better start saving up. I'm late on this but what the heck! That bass is stunning! I might add that I am not a big fan of the Excel but your custom idea changed my thinking of the bass. What a fantastic instrument, I'm sure you have been enjoying it to the fullest. Take care |
