I read somewhere that Sims LED’s when he started in 1994 bought a couple of Alembics to fit and show his LED’s,
So don’t know this might be one of those Alembics.
It’s also got different actives to a normal Essence, Bass, Treble, Pan & Volume.

Wow, that's like the LED version of Diamond-Eyed Jack's fingerboard. Love it! And is it any surprise that you keep coming back to this bass??

just fitted Flatwound strings, loving the bottom end and Punch. Not fighting with the Guitars in the mix anymore.

Watch out for the drooling alembic fan. It will be good to hear an alembic from the crowd for a change.

I'll keep a look out. Just hope the flatwounds sound as good live as they did at rehearsal.

Well, you have all inspired me. I have been wanting to try the Thomastik Jazz Flats for a long time and ordered a 5 string set for my Essence this morning. Should be in for my gig this weekend. It is a leap of faith with a hefty price tag. The rest of the world can't be wrong, right?

I think you'll like the TI flats. They were on the first Alembic I bought, and I have since put them on every other Alembic I have.

Kenn. Just wondering if you already use flats of somoe sort? If not, I'd wait till after your gig to change. I changed from roundwound to flats on my rogue fretless the day before a gig and almost ruined the night. The feel was so different I had no idea where my fingers were and they didn't move the same as with roundwounds. Took me a week or so of constant practice to get used to them.

Graeme, Thanks for the heads-up. I have tried Chromes a few times, but, I don't care for the feel/tension. I will let you know, sorry for the hi-jack, Andrew.

No Prob's.
Played with them on Saturday at a pub we regularly play, and they sounded great!
All the people said that it was the clearest they have ever heard us, we allways got comments before 0n how good the sound was, so apparently it just got even better, and we only use a vocal pa. And the wife said some of the really low notes you could feel them in your chest "nice".
The flats take me out of the guitars eq, so we are not all fighting for the same frequencies so we all have more space in the mix.
I'm using Picato 40-125s at the moment they have no ring just nice and smooth, don't do the slap bass like I used to.
I tried a set of Fender flats they sounded nice but the taper wound B was really bad it just kept buzzing on the bridge, so I fitted it to my Overwater and Peavey Cirrus same result, contacted Fender they say the core is most probably thinner than most taper wound strings so I'll need to have all my saddles reset, makes them a really expensive set of strings!
Never had that trouble with any other taper wound string, so I fitted the other 4 strings to my Tobias and it sounds nice.
So if using a 5 string avoid Fender Taper wounds, the B might not work with your bridge.

Andy.
