Bought this bass at the start of the year, would have loved it to be one of his Alembic's, but cest la vie. It was played by the great man on stage and has some history, its a Tune TWB4 made in Japan, apparently is was custom made for him. (Message edited by davehouck on June 13, 2014) |

You may have gotten more than you bargained for, as I have it on the best of authorities that the woodworking on these instruments was actually done at the Mothership. So while it's not one of his Alembics ... |

Thanks Adriaan, I had no idea that it might have started its life back at the mother ship, thanks for letting me know. Made bit of a boo boo in posting the last picture of Greg with his Tune, sorry about that, in this last picture Greg is playing the tremelo version, if you watch closely on one of the ELP DVD's, right at the start you see Greg holding up and looking at the Tune Bass tremelo version, you will also note that the end of the fret board is finished differently. The one I have is the bolt on neck, whilst the tremelo version in the picture is a through neck. |

Cool bass & very cool backstory! I don't think that Tune has a direct Alembic connection, though I could be wrong. Adriaan, do you mean that Alembic did the woodworking specifically on Greg Lake's Tunes? They are certainly Alembic inspired - I had an 8-string when I lived in Japan. There actually is a direct Tune connection, though I think I was mistaken about this particular model. At first glance it looked like ones that we made in about 1991, and I know one of them went to Greg Lake. But the body shape and inlays were slightly different. These basses for Tune were the only private label instruments we made. Sorry about the earlier confusion. |
