I'm guessing the standard setup would be the one on the Alembic site's California Special page, which has individual on/off switches for the pickups rather than the 5-way selector. But then I've never been able to matchup the description there with the picture on the same page. Maybe your setup was the standard in 1988.

California Special guitars Serial number code "CS"
Was it Custom guitars?

Well, you are right that C indicates a Custom and CS indicates a California Special. But Val says that the build card shows it to be a California Special; so I would go with what Val says. And it does look in every other way like a California Special.

English is the only language I speak, and I don't do very well with it <g>. I'm always very impressed that others have learned English as a second language, especially considering that English is quite a difficult language to learn. I think you're doing pretty good!

(Dave - I think that should be 'pretty well')

Yes, English is a tough, and often frustrating, language - the spelling is especially confusing. And I'm sure there are others here that feel just a little bit guilty that this site is essentially English-only, but so it goes.

We're really talking music and instruments here, and we can make that work regardless of language. Welcome to the club, Masao, don't be shy.

Bob, I find that with age I am increasingly forgetting rules and spellings. And yes, I thought it might be fair to have a different primary language for the board each month! But I would imagine that among Alembic owners English is the most common language, and therefore the most practical. Besides which, it's probably safe to assume that it's the primary language of our most generous hosts!

Anyway, I'm glad we finally have a California Special in the Showcase!

It should have had a CS instead of just a C; it's likely that the set-up man just missed it.
