I picked up this bass from John McVie. It is an unusual graphite neck bass from the 70's.

That's cool. Any additional information about the build?

Congrats on the "new" bass Scott!.... "New" to you and the rest of us... interesting indeed.... I'm curious what the story is with the electronics. Very similar layout to 75-241, which w/out the crazy electronics, is very similar to McVie's steel board fretless.... Makes me wonder if #241 once belonged to McVie as well.... Either way, Congrats are in order.... anyone w/ a graphite neck and Series electronics is high on the hog Imho...

Hi Scott,

Congrats for your luck.
The bass is very interested.

1: The article
The bass is found on the album "Fleetwood Mac 25 years".
25 years

2: The neck
This Fender type Graphite neck is well known as replacement parts. But these are bolt on type.
The bass is bolt on or through neck to body construction ?
The back shot is good information about it.

3: The bridge
It has wider bridge spacing just like Fender's.
The neck was chosen for spacing, that I think.

4: The tail piece
The tail piece shape is unusual !
What's shape, it is !

5: The top wood
The photo shows Very dark colour and straight grains. Is it Rosewood or Ebony sp. ?
( I think, the bass has Ebony top when I saw the album.)

6: The controls
These knobs are Super Filters as 75-241.
But it has some more knob and SWs.
I have NO WORDS !

Please show us more photos with details.
I'm interested S/N info.

Eiji, 75-241 DOES NOT have Super Filters. I'm not going to hijack Scott's thread, BUT, if the middle knob in each row of three is a 4 position vari-tone style rotary switch, then the control set is close to the same.

Very Cool! I have always wondered what the rest of that bass looked like. There aren't too many pictures of John anyway, and I don't remember ever seeing him pictured with that one.

I'm familiar with several of his instruments, including a short-horn graphite-necked Series bass he had for sale last year, but I would love to read more about this one.

Awesome! If you have bigger pictures and problems getting them to the 150 Kb limit, please send them to the address in my profile.
Picture(s) of the back would be nice also, thanx for sharing!

Very cool bass! I'm guessing a full superfilter. Interestingly, it appears to have 23 frets instead of 24.
