Here's a couple shots of my essence 4. This is s/n 91K6585. I introduced myself when I bought it but forgot a showcase entry, so here it is :-)

Nice bass. Interesting inlay positioning. I've never seen that before. Congrats & enjoy.

Yeah, I had the inlay done afterwards, and since I live in Holland, sending the bass to Alembic was not really an option. And if it were to be done by someone else I thought I'd let my own creative juices loose instead of going for the ovals :-)

(Not to mention dots leaving a much smaller hole in my bankaccount than ovals)

Looks a lot like my Essence (look at the ,,My new oldstyle Essence'' Thread) , even the wood has two colors. :-)

Isn't it a great bass?

Its an amazing bass, even though my first reaction when I saw it was: 'omg, its so small!' :-) I've definately warmed to the playability and sound over the last year though.

lol, and the rooftop is simply because I was to lame to carry it down and take a few shots in the grass :-)

Mooi basje Matthijs!!!!
I suspect the wood to be walnut indeed and more pricesely Clarowood. It is a Californian member of the dark walnut family. You will always see shifting colors from greenish to reddish with brownish and even blackish lines and figures. Bonnie and Chi are Clarowood and in Bonnies top is even some "spalting".
A truely nice bass but indeed I would say "so small" at first too! A friednb of mine in Groningen has a 5-er of this type and it is really comfortable to play.
I wouldn't say that Bonnie is uncomfortable to play but -and I am not the only one saying- you need "an attitude" to play an Alembic with a standard body.
