 This has Signature electronics plus the bass/treble switches. I replaced the screws with brass ones because the originals didn't quite have enough length to get the neck pickup where I wanted it.  I think the headstock is bocote, but I'm not sure.  It sounds freakin' sweet! | ||

There is only one bass and one treble switch, and there are two Q switches. The quick tone switches are closest to the neck, and are easy to access quickly, so having only one set is no big loss. I am quickly discovering that this is an amazingly versatile bass! | ||

Charles, Great find! The bass looks to be in good shape. I'm glad you like it. What is the scale on this bass? If it's a 35" scale, how do you like the neck compared to your Modulus. Thanks, Pete. It is a 35". The neck is a good bit chunkier than the Modulus, and the string spacing is a tad wider. Switching to the Alembic was no problem, however, and after playing it exclusively and extensively for the past 4 days, the Modulus felt almost petite when I picked it up today. I haven't got the action exactly where I want it quite yet. The combination of going from being a super-low EADGC back to a moderate-relief BEADG and moving from Texas to Georgia seems to have the neck a little confused. It is actually stiffer than the Modulus, though, judging from the amount of force it takes to flex it by hand. I'm sure it'll settle in nicely. The thing that impresses me most versus the Modulus is the sensitivity of the controls. The blend actually blends over it's entire range rather than the first 1/8th of a turn, and the smallest turn of a filter produces an audible result. Also, the ability to change the character of the blends is amazing. I can get a growly topend from the neck blended with low-mid punch from the bridge, or I can go for whoomp from the neck and sparkle from the bridge. The palette is so much more complex. FWIW, my custom will have a neck slightly smaller than the Modulus, by about the same degree as this one is larger. Should be amazing! | ||

Just a couple pictures in case y'all don't believe me~   Amazing tone coming out of this thing out of my prehistoric rig- loving every second of it. The string spacing is just right for me. With the additional switches,how much more low end fatness can you get out of the bass p/u with the filter rolled as low as you can? I know their cut boost switches but is it just adding more volume or does it affect the tone as well. I have several A's with signature electronics and I have played on way too many standard Rogues and a few Distillates so I know what they will do separately. Do you feel the benefits outweigh the cost? Is there a synergy or additive effect fattening the lows in boost position? Does it make the lows sound darker? Thanks in advance for the info. | ||

Barry- To be honest, I've never really paid any attention to what you're asking about. I'll plug in when I get home this afternoon and have a good listen and report back. Toby EDIT: After having a listen (through headphones only)- I'd say it doesn't change any of the inherent tone...just boosts the tone that is already present. This took me a while... with the filter dialed all the way down on the neck pickup, the bass sounds so thick anyway- when I hit that +bass switch, it sure sounded thicker and bassier, but I can't say the "tone" was changed. Another guy who could certainly give you lots of feedback on this would be Mark (8StringKing). He is a huge proponent of the quick change switches and bass/treble controls. Hope this helps. Charles, I bought the Hitachi one down in NZ- haven't picked up a step down transformer for the charger, so it gave me an excuse to get the other one.... =) Those are both 15's- funny how the camera makes the bottom one seem smaller. To answer your question- I love 'em. I'm not much for describing tone, but they're very warm and musical to me. Same with the Ashdown head- I played a whole lot of heads and could have spent more money, but I ended up really liking the Ashdown MAG sound (kinda old school thumpy). I think the amp and cabs are a very nice match for the Alembic tone. | ||

Art, Over the years, I've used a number of different JBL loaded custom cabinets (8's, 10's, 12's, 15's, and 18's), a SWR 2x10 + 2x10 + 1x18 system run bi-amped in stereo, and now these PJB cabs. There is NO comparison! The cone area of these cabinets is the equivalent of a 2x10 plus 4x10, but with the drive/control capacity of 24 drivers. WAY better control of the low end with incredible mid and high end clarity - the perfect compliment for my new Alembic! I'm using a Crest Audio LT 1000 bridged to drive them (6ohm load). Plenty of power for the church where I usually play. Thanks, Loch | ||

I'm one of the former owners. I bought if from club member Charles when he built his killer custom series II. I sold it to Loch to fund the build of my custom Elan and I know Loch sold it when he bought his series II. This bass is awesome! The signature electronics + the quick change bass and treble switches is a GREAT setup. This is a super versatile bass and a fantastic playing and sounding guitar. | ||

This Rogue is my 49th bass and first Alembic,and i am very pleased with it,the B string is excellent,the balance is great,the neck profile is spot on for me,and it has the full rich sound i was looking for. I found the electronics quite easy to get on with,after the initial doubt...oh yes,and finally great workmanship. I like to have 3 basses,and an Alembic will definately be in the stable. | ||

Congrats, have have an absolutely AWESOME bass!!! As Toby said, the ONLY reason I got rid of it was because I was able to acquire a Series II 5 string. And while I love the sound of my Series II, I will have to admit that this bass feels a lot "faster" and is much lighter. I could play it for hours... If I had unlimited resources, I would NEVER have sold it! There's just something about your first Alembic... | ||

The B string tuner looks like the new style Gotoh ones, while the rest look like the old style. The new style look more like classic Schallers keys, which I like much better than Gotoh's old style keys. It'll cost ya four new ones or one old one to get a matched set. Actually, the E-G tuners are the newer style, the B tuner is the style before that, which started in the early 90s, and which Gotoh discontinued a couple of years ago. Recently, they made a batch with the old ears, just for Alembic. | ||

Adriaan, are you sure on that? It would not be the first time I got something ass-backwards. I have a 2003 with the thicker keys and a 2006 with the Schaller-like keys. I talked to Mica on the phone a month or two back, and could swear she said the Schaller-like ones were the new ones. This could be bad news for me, if you are correct, as I planned on replacing the tuners on my 2003, as I do not like that style. A bit off topic - I'm in the wasteland so I have no stores that even sell leather straps, much less have tuners to compare. Gotoh tuners have a larger mounting hole than Schaller M4's use. Does anyone know if Hipshots (Ultralites) have the same sized mounting hole as the Gotoh's? That would solve my 'problem' nicely! | ||

In a 1997 Bassist review of the Rogue it was fitted with Gotoh tuners,so the B string on mine must be the original.Seems to me someone swapped on a four string.liking the Gotoh's and putting the newer ones on mine.I personally like the newer thicker ones,sos thats what i need. | ||

Dang, Andy...I did not notice that with the tuner! And as the other previous owners have stated...not a darn thing wrong with 99Q12212! It's solid as a rock and versatile. Records well, too. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's "cursed" to make people buy more Alembics! We will see...if Andy goes for an upgrade soon, then maybe we should be worried! lol | ||
