05 Wishbass Scroll, 69 Fender Jazz, 96 Alembic Epic, and 05 Wishbass Standard. I explained to my wife that multiple Bass guitars are far superior to the alternative midlife crisis'. I got along fine for 28 years without a backup to my Fender, then I suddenly became aware of my mortality! |

James, Nice collection. I love my Epics too. What do you think of the Wishbasses? There has been a bit of discussion (and some disagreement) on the club about them. What do you think? Rich |

The Good: Wishnevsky is an honest, attentive, creative, good guy. He spells it out on his site, fit and finish are not his priorities, tone and playability are. My Scroll bass is amazing, $475 including shipping. I custom ordered the scroll to my desires. The dozen or so players who have handled it, all have the same reaction: raised eyebrows, smiles, followed by, "it cost how much?!?" After owning it for a year, I spent a week sanding and finishing it. It's fast and sweet. My Standard was an ebay purchase. It arrived with some major problems. Wish offered to fix it for me or refund my money, but after some discussion, I chose to work on it myself. I paid $300 on a second chance offer for a $500 bass. Then end result is that it now plays wonderfully, and the Gibson style pu really growls. I have read various forums where Wish gets trashed, and I just don't understand it. His 256 ebay feedbacks are 100% positive, and he sells many more custom orders. The bad: gee I don't know, he lives in Carolina and I can't easily visit his workshop? The Ugly: Some of his designs are, IMHO, butt ugly. But he'll make a body style in any shape you want. I remember thinking, when I choose the Scroll style, that I wanted something I wouldn't be tired of looking at when I was an old man :-) I get all warm and fuzzy when I pick her up. FYI: I have been playing for 30 years, but I am not a pro. I may not be as demanding of my instruments as some. In my four basses I have four very diverse and distinctly different tones. I love my Wishbasses. The bottom line is, if you bought a Wishbass, and had any issues with it, Wish would make it right. Peace, James |
