This is the bass player from Alien Ant Farm playing a 6 String Europa in what appears to be CocoBolo.

He looks like he's in pain, it is quite a stretch. I love mine too much to complain though. It's kind of like having sex and doing yoga at the same time.

An interesting footnote: Tye Zamora of Alien Ant Farm (pictured above) sold this bass on eBay about 6 months ago. I recall him stating in his auction that his recent contract with Fender caused him to sell several of his basses including the Alembic shown above. I was tempted at the time to bid, but it was just too expensive for my budget.

Maybe it was the pain of having to sell his other basses? His signature bass is in the Fender Catalog and is available through the custom shop. Not my cup of tea, but hey, the man's gotta eat!

I just took a look at the Fender site, wondering what this guy might be playing now. Well, I couldn't find it, but I did notice how amusing it is that Fender makes the ever-so-slightest design change to a model and voila, a whole new line springs forth upon the planet. Standard, Deluxe, American, American Standard, American Deluxe, Standard Deluxe American, American Deluxe Standard, geez how many permutations are there in those simple chunks of wood? :-O

I agree with you on that point. I have 2 Fender guitars a Japan strat w/ rosewood board, popped Bill L L500 in it and a Tele Esquire Celtic. Plays great sound good, great inlay. The Zamora model is in the large catalog but only special order I believe. There are so many models made it is mind boggling. The American models necks are cranked out six at a time I think. I think that the newest line will be "American Standard Deluxe Custom Limited Signature Vintage Reissue". I's kind of like the Mr. Potato Head of the guitar world.

To borrow a theme from another Club thread, "an Alembic is for when you can't afford a Fender."

LOL!

PS anyone catch Drew Carey the other night? Mimi was on the couch trying to play Smoke on the Water on what looked like a Fender Musicmaster bass.

The bass is a customer that was designed by Ty and built with the help of a luthier friend of his. I read once that Fender was going to make it as a custom artist model but haven't heard much else since. As far as Fender making a few sublte tweaks and calling it a new model think about this... Fender, for lack of a better word, has been type-cast. Whenever they have tried to something radically different it is greated with upturned noses by the general public. Just look at the Urge for example. There only hope for creative outlet is to update and upgrade their existing models. They good side is that they already have designs that are proven to stand the test of time and popular trends.

I found the following info on:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94456 (note, you'le have to subscribe before you can look at posts on this site)

Any one who has seen Alien Ant Farm in their videos or live, should have noticed that bassist Tye Zamora likes custom, or exotic basses. I saw them this past Monday in Detriot, and got to meet the band afterward. When I was talking to him, he asked "how do you like my new bass?, it's a fender". I asked him about his deal he had with Dave Parr, and he said "That guy's loopy, he wanted all kinds of money and stuff".

Tye designed his original bass him self with the help of Dave Parr. The bass can be seen in the video for 'Movies'. They came out with a Dave Parr/Tye Zamora model that you could buy last year or so, it was in the guitar/bass buyers guide.

This new Fender looks almosts like the Dave Parr, but with different woods, and a high gloss finish. It appears to be a Cocobolo top, over a Mahagony body. The pickups have wood covers also. I'm not sure about all the woods or what ever, but check out the pics, and count the neck laminates. I counted 9!

Hm, definitely a Crown headstock.

Oops, other thread.
Double oops, it IS a Crown headstock.
