At the suggestion of Flip, here is my newest prize, dubbed "Ruby Red." (The 1989 custom ruby red finish Spoiler that I nabbed for $850). The finest sounding bass I have ever played. Welcome any comments on this bad boy. Rich

First one I've seen with a thumb rest. How do you like it? Look cool. |

Olie, Rarely use the thumb rest. Doesn't get in the way. Don't want to mess with anything that came with the bass so I left it on. The bass is a dream to play. Rich |

Beatiful bass Rich, Welcome to The Club. There was a thumb rest on my Orion when I got it, I removed it and filled in the screw holes, it came out great. That red is stunning. Any Alembic for $850 is a great deal! Congrats! |

Does anybody have a guess at what a standard Spoiler cost when sold as new in '89? |

Rich is packing and shipping me this Ruby Red Spoiler today! He received my 2006 Rickenbacker JetGlo 4003, with $200.00 in the case, on Wednesday! Was very well pleased! I am so freaking excited to get a closeup look at the Flame Maple under this Translucent Red! Also quite stoked about getting to hear how the Spoiler sounds compared to my Flame Koa Persuader I had! |

I'll post new pictures after I clean up the Brass! Tailpiece, bridge and truss rod cover are needing to shine like new again! Also, the Thumb Rest is no-longer there! I'll need to see it here before I can say what was or wasn't done about the holes! Any advice on the Brass Cleaning would be greatly appreciated! Garret |

Congratulation, Garret. That is a fine looking Spoiler. If you check the FAQ section, there are several threads on cleaning the brass hardware. Suggestions prior to taking apart the bridge is to use a digital camera to take some pictures. It makes it a lot easier to put it all back together once you have bits and pieces sitting everywhere! Also- there are a couple good threads on setup- Joey's setup thread in the FAQ section is a must read for setting up Alembics. I'd link some threads for you, but it's a cumbersome process from my phone. |

Thank you very much tbrannon! I will certainly do that! As far as setup though, I should be just fine. I had my '90 Flame Koa Persuader for 15 years and never allowed anyone else to touch it! I did all my own setup, as I had been doing for the previous 15 years on my older and newer Rickenbacker Basses. Both having Dual Truss Rod Systems. Thanks again! I will show "After Clean" pics though, for sure! Garret |
