Hello, here It's my old short scale "Stanley" from 1983 (?) if I remember. I sold them unfortunatly. It's me, with my band, I used 2 input modules, 2 Alembic preamps, one dual-channel equalizer, 1 cross-over, 1 Roland Chorus Echo, 2 power amps Yamaha and 4 X 250W (3 ways) Electro Voice speakers, same amplification of Clarke at this time. Nice looking bass! Cool rig too! Looks like a couple of F-2B's and a couple of IN-2's. IN-2's are very rare these days. Great pics too! | ||

Unfortunatly, I sold all in 1985... :o(( Actually, I'm playing with a single Ashdown Mag 300R and a Lexicon MX 200, Galien-Krueger speaker for my home; later, I will buy SWR system; with my Stanley Signature Deluxe, I have the same sound but the amplification is realy light now !! see: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/33422.html?1165672602 (Message edited by pierreyves on December 09, 2006) | ||

some new pictures scanned today: my 1980's band "Amethyste", some jazz-rock:  Because original color wasn't nice, I charged my best friend to change this and do an inlay with mother of pearl near the tailpiece. Later, the same bass will be defretted.  detail:  | ||

I found a new one !!!!! I did not remember this one....I had the upper bass wich has been defretted and I discover now another one !!! Crazy...I had 4 Alembic in the 1980's years: 2 short scales, 1 medium scale (no pictures found) and 1 Distillate (a new thread is coming soon). The picture below show two short scales, my amplification. The bass I have in hand had walnut top and back. The peghead is another wood...curiosly!  | ||

Pierre-Yves, I noticed in most of the above pictures that you anchor your right hand near the bridge pickup. I do the same thing most of the time. Is there a reason? I'm just curious because most folks I know don't - that you and I apparently do makes me curious as to why you do. For me, it's just more comfortable, and I like the fact that the strings aren't as floppy there. I'd be interested to hear why you anchor your plucking hand there (or not). Alan | ||

II do that as well, generally I feel there is a better sensation of control than when playing in the neck pickup or anywhere else... ALthough in my case it may vary, depending of whatever I'm playing might demand... | ||

Hi Alan & friends. If I play over the bridge pickup it's only for the sound, difficult for me to explain, because I'm looking at this moment for a round and fat sound. Usually I play over the neck pickup for most comfort, taping (?) the strings hard, it's the only hand position to have the Clarkee's sound without slapping. I hope you understand  For Al Dimeola, you are right !!! lot of friends said that at this time !! |
