Alembic basses caught my eye because of the fine craftsmanship and beautiful woods. After I got this bass, I now know why people rave about the tone!!!

It's nice to see the number of Spoilers on the site. I've always loved themsince 83'. My first was nearly identical ti this. Solid Koa, maple neck, chrome schallers. It was just refinished and is like brand new! Best of luck Keebler,(if you just got it) congrats on a beauty that will serve you a long time. |

Can anyone verify this? I pretty sure that my Spoiler has a mahogony body, and I was told by the seller that it was a coco bolo top. The headstock veneer is layered as such: walnut, maple, walnut, maple core, walnut, maple, walnut. I've checked the wood bank to see which of the woods looks more like what the top of my bass looks like, but can't decide if it is coco bolo or koa. Registering my bass yielded no info as to the woods used. Please help! |

Without seeing the bass in person, it is hard to tell. But to me it looks like koa. |

As far as I know the first run of Spoilers had solid koa bodies, no laminates on the body, 3 pc neck in maple. At the time they ran an ad in the mags with Ron and Susan holding one in a pseudo American Gothic theme with Ron sitting and Susan standing behind. The way the photo was taken, it almost looks like Ron has one arm. Mica cleared that up for me. He indeed has two! Pretty hard to make basses with one arm I would think. |
