Dear All, yes I know Loewenherz very well. I had one here for testing for about a week. The owner of Loewenherz is a friend of mine and lives very close to me. The basses are designed by the owner and are buildt by a german bass luthier. The electronics are also german made by a small company. The craftmanship is really very good and the electronics are superb. It is active but my personal taste was, it sounds better ran passive. There are 6 pickups on the bass and you can switch on/off each seperately. This is a very versatile bass as with the different pickup combinations your are able to reproduce every desired sound including a real great Alembic sound, my favorite. Wonder why? Optically I like more the 12 pickup model you can see on their website, but what kept me away from the basses until now is the versatility (too much for me) and the look of the lions head... It's a bass or a computer ??? It's completely crazy, even the head of lion ... for my taste it's "TOO" much... from this page (Message edited by pierreyves on October 21, 2007) |

When I last saw Stanley he had the Loewenherz on stage did not play it. All he played was the Alembic. I have also seen numerous concert photos with the bass sitting in the stand but none of Stanley actually paying it. Keith |

Last time I went to see him (Clarke/Duke project), he played the Lowenbrau for one song, IIRC. Bradley |

Bradley- Lowenbrau huh? That would explain the lion..... IMO it's way too much. Looks like an Alembic/Jaydee hybrid that grew up in a Tijuana pawn shop. (Message edited by tbrannon on October 21, 2007) |

I think it's kind of cool...at the very least a conversation peice. Looks better than a Ritter or an Ernie Ball Bongo, for sure. How much would one of these cost in the US? |

Will - EVERYTHING looks better than a MM Bongo. A high-tech toilet seat, may I say. I don't agree with you about Ritter though. As for the Loewenherz - yes, it's a bit too much. I don't like the discrepancy between the upper and the lower horn (their look just don't compliment each other, they simply don't match), and that lion head... Just ugh. Still, I'd love to lay my hands on it (and have a spare week or two to explore all the possibilities). |

There's one at the bass exchange. Price included. I agree with Toby and Jarek. It's too much but it still looks better than a Bongo. But everything looks better than a MM Bongo. Bass Exchange Manfred |

He was using QSC amps (to full effect!) when I went to see him on the 19th. |

The tailpiece on the Lowenherz looks like someone took a golden dump on the back end of the bass if you ask me. I'm sure they're nice basses, but I wouldn't buy one based on that tailpiece .... yecchhh ... Alan |
