Can it actually be better looking than when you picked it up? WOW!

Well Mica,

It's much better looking now, because I can play it. I was so weak when I got it that I did not have the strenght to play; infact I was so sick that I ended up in the hospital with diabetes (a new thing) for 5 days. I'm much better now ( insulin rules) and enjoying the heck out of it. In case you're wondering, I had to postpone my trip for the above reason, so I'll be around for another couple of weeks at least. I'm planning to come up maybe sometime next week, if it is convenient, to get my fretless back. Thanks again for all your help & your kindness.

Valentino,

I was wondering - as I'm sure many of us were - why we hadn't heard anything from you in quite a while. Sort of assumed you got the new bass and were just too enthralled to want to spend any time with a "keyboard" :-)

Sorry to hear about your new condition, but as you say, insulin rules and it sounds like you're adapting well.

Now I've gotta ask this question (too lazy to go back and look): I'd swear this is the same grass that shows up in the shot of one of Mica's basses - true, or just a coincidence on the color?

Enjoy it, it's a beauty. And nice to have you back.

Thanks for the kind words Bob,

it's nice to be back.

I'll try to post some better shots later on.
A bit more info on the bass: no back laminate, custom chambered body shape, mahogany body, maple accent, deluxe purpleheart laminates, Fender jazz neck dimensions, MOP inlays, bookmatch to center, Coco Bolo top, Thomastik-Infeld flatwound strings; slightly over 9 pound in weight. A bit of humble Series I if you will, to borrow Paul's ( the bad one) expression. But it's all mine....

In regards to the grass, it's still northern California grass, but no, it isn't the same grass as in the shot of Mica's bass. :-)

Val: you've read what Mica said about my dream? It's going lesser "humble" every time!

You guys are killin' me. I decided a long time ago that I didn't like pistol grips. I decided a long time ago that I didn't like the large body with a flat bottom (had to have either a Point or an Omega to break up all that real estate).

So you go out and spec one with BOTH and I absolutely LOVE IT!! Simply mahvelous!!!

Peace,

James

Exactly what you are saying, James! There are some body shapes which scream "Alembic" right at you and others which are a little more general in their looks.

This one screams as much "Alembic" as my favorite classic Series (big and small) shapes. Great example of "Variation within Tradition". Congratulations!

Hartmut
