Soon I will post some 'serious' photo's here, but I know you're all anxious to see me and my bass, so follow the link, learn a little dutch, watch me doing my thing, AND most of all see an Alembic in action: http://kabel.netvisit.nl/%7Egroot02/ |

Tnx Stoney, I shall give your compliments to the webmaster. I myself am not so into the whole webdesignbuildingthing. Indeed our show is bags of fun to do, and it's also a way of living(?!) For all those out there wondering what it's all about, but can't understand the Dutch on my site, I'll try to post a photo here. It's a picture of me and my bass. See how great the flame koa looks, and what a wonderfull job the Alembiccrew did on the body.

Ok, here's another one of me and my bass. And please no comments about the hairy legs. For your information; this picture was NOT taken in the time that Julius Ceasar ruled most of Europe, but in the time that Alembic was conquering the world (of bassplayers). And for the 'ladybassplayers': Yes, I'm wearing something under the dress.... |

Let's have a look at an Alembic at work. That's what they are made for, to spread the Alembic-sound all over the world. In this case; Holland.

He Hup, great looking bass!! Very nice multi laminated neck.... And I like the dark wood also very much. How's the new band going along? Meanwhile, I've been very busy. The small update I got from Mica worked very well. (Tnx again!!) I've contacted my 'webmasteres' for perhaps a english version of my site. We're working on it. Perhaps I might add a 'Bass Gallery' , with pictures of most amazing basses in this galaxy..... I'll keep you'll updated. Till then: http://www.mattheus.tk |

Good news for my beloved Spoiler. After a small rest in his case, I decided to pull it ou again. I played some other basses the last few years, but every now and then I took the Spoiler out of his case and everytime I was very pleased with the way it played and sounded. Right now I'm busy to do a big clean-up job. The bass has been played for years and that shows.... I've contacted Martin Sims, and he will place some LED's in the neck, so the bass will shine like ever before. |

The big cleaning continues... Now I'm only wondering. What shall I do; respray the whole bass to make it look like new. Or leave the "war"-marks of many, many gigs and let the bass keep his history. For the looks I might like a "newish" look. But somehow I feel like erasing some history that I have with my Spoiler. Or is that just me being a silly bassplayer... |

I should have known that.... always pictures... I'm now preparing for a few busy days. Straight after that I'll take some pictures. It's a pitty that I didn't take any pictures of the bass with al the hardware still on it before I started the big cleaning. It was a real shame the way the bass looked. Btw. I was never really away from this club! I peaked every now and then to look if everyone is still behaving. |

At least I didn't sleep with my bass... well, sort off... Not that I can remember..... (Just like the fact that I've never gone to bed with an ungly woman, but I sure woke up with a few...) |

You did not sleep with your bass? That's sick! Be sure to take the Alembic to your "Fryslân" gigs, I might be there to check if you do ;-) Classified dutch part of this message: Vanavond (Wolvega) gaat niet lukken, maar vrijdag 26 juni in Akkrum waarschijnlijk wel. Dat kan ik op de fiets doen, wellicht kom ik even meefeesten :-) |

Unfortunately the gig in Wolvega was cancelled. Some lunatic raced with his car into the crowd watching and celebrating our Queen (Queen's Day in Holland). Innocent people were killed in this tragic event. Many big events in Holland were cancelled as a respect to all those people involved. Again a cruel world has shown his ugly face.... |

I read about that this morning on BBC news. Especially tragic given the festive nature of the holiday. |

Here are some pictures of my Spoiler. With a flash you can clearly see the dings and dongs (it looks like the bass was on a battlefield..) Without a flash the bass looks fairly unharmed...

Sorry Enzo, but this one will never be on the market.... Somehow I have a weird kind of a relationship with it. I bought this bass new in '87 and was completely blown away by it. Shortly after that I bought myself a Series II, but that bass wasn't my cup of tea (can you imagine..). I sold the Series II and got myself a Status bass; which is a great bass for touring. The Spoiler stayed in it's case but kept shouting at me.... |

Haha, I didn't mean to ask you to sell it to me ! I remember you to point, on the Status forum, at a Spoiler like this for sale in Holland. I think this is my favourite body shape. |

That's right. Not so long ago there was a similar Spoiler for sale here in the Netherlands. It had a dark facing wood, I can't recall what wood it was. I must admit that I also fancied that bass, together with my Spoiler they would make a nice couple... |

I heard from someone today that it should be possible to "wipe" the dings and dongs away with a good polisher like Commandant. I have no idea what that will do with the high glos finish of the bass. Has anyone got an idea, or better has anyone ever tried to polish up the finish of their bass with a polish like Commandant? |

Wow how did you not dig the SeriesII?...was it the neck set-up, or do you prefer a simpler electronics configuration,....by the way i love your bass. big body spoilers are very rare yours is the only one ive seen so far! |

Me and the SeriesII didn't match. First of all I must state clearly that it was one of the finest basses that I ever had, but.... Somehow it didn't feel right in my hands. I've set it up to make it similar to the Spoiler, but somehow the Spoiler felt more natural. For most of you that must sound pretty silly, but then again dutchmen are welknown for their being silly... I use the bass live onstage a lot (around 120 gigs every year), and I need a bass that I can use pretty fast. With a SeriesII I have so mutch sounds in my hands and so many knobs that I keep tweaking my sound during the show. The SeriesII is a bass that can make almost very possible sound you need. And with that knowledge I am always tempted in every song to adjust the bass to be perfect for that song. With the Spoiler I don't have that problem, just because it has very simple but very effective electronics. Another thing that I encountered with the Spoiler was, that it sounded more "tight" compared to the SeriesII which had more bottom. For live shows I prefered the "tight" sound of the Spoiler. For studio use the SeiesII was my favorit... I hope this explains a litte... |
