Hi Jan, yes great...a Belgian collaegue! (Alles goed? No-no we keep this in english for other members). I see you have the EVH-thing and that's great. Edwin is a close friend of mine and he helped me purchasing my Alembic(s). He also introduced me to the Glockenklang cabinets I'm using. They sound great and less expensive as EBS SWR and EDEN. I prefer them over TRACE ELLIOT. I love the EVH-basses but they cam in medium-scaled necks. That.s something I hate. Reason is fysically: I'm rather tall (1,90m) and so the reach of my arms is far. By the way, that's also why I don't have a problem with the wider neck. If you -or other Belgian visitors- like to see and hear the sound (I'm not that great player so don't come for me but for the bass) come to our next gig in the bar "The Stapleton" - Standonckstraat - Leuven (Near the Halls of the University) on 02 november 2002. The band is called "Blue Stuff". I'll put together a showcase later. Dag! Paul |

Hi Paul I also have a great respect for Edwin. He's not only a fantastic bass player, but he is also a wonderful talented person who assists you very well when you have the smallest question about Alembic. In 1990 I went to Hoogerheide (in his Will's Import days) with the idea of buying a Distillate, but ended up with my first 5 string EVH signature Alembic. Two years later I noticed someone in Antwerp selling the 4 string version of that model with a wonderful coco bolo top and back as you can see above. I drove straight to Antwerp to buy it. These have been my only two axes in the last decade. I really feel no GAS for anything else, except a Series II ;-) But with the EVH electronics which are mainly the mono versions of the Series I, I already have a lot of possibilities. I can't imagine ever saying goodbye to my 2 babies. A few weeks ago, I gave them to Edwin for a full service control, and he was surprised they were still in such a great shape. The medium size is fine for me (I'm also 1,87 m tall). I never had a long scale Alembic in my hands. I don't know if I would like the wider neck. I am very happy with the standard spacing on my 4 and 5 stringers. After 15 years of Trace Elliot use, I finally made a move to SWR which I am very happy with. The rather new MO Bass with 2 goliath III’s give me all the flexibility I need, a really punchy HIFI sound. I noted that gig on 2 November in Leuven, and if I am not gigging that day, I consider having a look at Blue Stuff. I follow this board closely, so if you post a reminder at the end of October with a more precise timing of the gig, I would appreciate it. Take care ! (especially of your Series II) Jan
