I just bought this bass today. I'm wondering if any club members can give me some insight into this bass. I never knew Alembic made a SC five string.

They have made five-, and even six- string Stanley models.

I met a guy in Melbourne, Australia that was busking in a "pedestrian block". It was a little weird for me to run into someone playing an Alembic on the street; it was a very distinctive experience (he played with a looper, and a battery+inverter powered amp).

Anyhow, he had a Stanley 5-string.

I've seen a 5 string stanley around on ebay in the past but it was string with a high C, which I more likely how I would string it personally.
My concern would be how the B-string would feel under my fingers. I assume quite loose. Also these basses are not the best at balancing with neck dive a reality so I would imagine with that extra weight in the headstock it would dive a bit more.

That said it is a heck of a bass you have there.
Supid question but , How does it sound? :-)

That's a beauty, Congrats! All Alembics are made to order so whoever originally bought the guitar wanted 5 strings, even though it's a specific model. You still can have things your way, weather you specify one thing custom or a bunch, sky's the limit. Pierre, look at the end of the fingerboard: the strings balance really well across the width of the board, giving more room for the lower and thicker strings. The tailpiece goes where it has to as a compromise so that the strings go straight off the bridge. A minor cosmetic issue.

The tail piece being not exactly in the center is not a big deal for me at all. I'm a little off center myself anyway.

Hey, I have a similar Stanley Clarke five-string, except - no signature! How did you get yours signed?

I don't really understand the origin of the SC signature model. He plays a Series I 4 string. If I were to order A SC replica, it wouldn't be the "Signature" model. Although as all Alembics go, that's a real beauty.

Enjoy,

:-)

I don't get it either rami, but I'm in love with mine! It's pretty much what I was plugging into the quote generator on my own, minus Series I electronics. I'll post pics in a new thread.
