I just got my Elan back from the amazing folks at Alembic. They refinished the bass in Wineburst and restored all the hardware to "like new." I'm freaking out!

That looks great! Congratulations.

Do you have any pictures of what the bass used to look like?

I bought the bass off Ebay back in the spring, it was a bit of a wreck, but exactly what I was looking for. I've loved the Wineburst finish ever since the Orion 5 that Alembic did about a year, or so, ago. This bass is perfect for it with a quilted maple top on maple body. Once again, I want to thank the folks at Alembic, they really go over-the-top to make the customer happy. Here's a couple of pics provided by the previous owner.

I soooo love this bass. It is seriously making me consider doing the same thing with a sunburst or tobaccoburst finish.

Reid- if you ever want to let this one go, please let me know.

!!! Way cool, glad you like it! Wineburst is a great variation on bursts and as is often said here, it looks better in person. Thanks!

I'm thinking of going the other way on my Elan and taking the clear purple paint off my bass and going au naturelle with it's quilted maple.

I'm sure it will be beautiful. The ability to do that is yet another amazing thing about Alembic. I remember Mica telling me when I had this one refinished that they would clear coat it first, then apply the color coats and final clear coats so that I could reverse it in the future. I was astonished that they would "go the extra mile" even on a refinish. I love the Wineburst on this bass but it is great to know that it can be reversed or totally changed to a different color scheme with relative ease. If you go back to the quilted maple on your Elan JV, you'll have a theme going what with that gorgeous Series 2 you have! BTW, very nice service you provided, explaining the controls on that bass.

I saw this one on sale a while back and as gorgeous as it is, I felt the asking price was way too high even if it has been refurbished to as new condition. That price is really good used series bass money.

Then I remembered my purple Elan is the quilted maple underneath the paint and excluding the purple heart neck lams and electronics it's essentially the same so why not strip it back as a kind of match for my S2.

So that may be on the cards in the future when I'm gigging more with it.
