Bob Burchess emailed this link to some of his work today: www.fotobob.com/stanleyclarke I don't know how many photos are there, but it pretty much ruined my productivity for an hour before I had to tear myself away. Only got time for a few? Here's some hand-picked shots to browse. I love this shot: http://fotobob.com/stanleyclarke/pages/DSCF7022.htm and this one where he's tuning the filter: http://fotobob.com/stanleyclarke/pages/DSCF6794.htm how about some Stanley signature moves? http://fotobob.com/stanleyclarke/pages/DSCF6695_1.htm http://fotobob.com/stanleyclarke/pages/DSCF6710.htm http://fotobob.com/stanleyclarke/pages/DSCF6945_1.htm http://fotobob.com/stanleyclarke/pages/DSCF6824.htm |

Wow, very nice pictures. I wish he'd show up in Europe or better in Germany to see my hero live again. I could only see him once live in Cologne, must be at least 10 years ago. BTW: Is he such a big guy or does he play a smaller body size ? His bass looks small as a toy in his hands. |

If I'm well informed he is TALL! Has enormous hands and indeed, it's a SSBody with medium neck. GREAT pictures! |

I saw Stanley several times live many years ago with Chick Corea. He is a big guy. The Alembic he played appeared disproportionately small in comparison with his dimensions. But what he DID with it was just as extraordinary!! |

One the tenor bass (the one in the photo cllection) the top laminate, the back laminate, the core and the neck laminates are Vermilion. |

The neck laminates too?! Does he use Vermilion for all these for appearance, tone, or both? For the neck, how does the Vermilion differ from Purpleheart lams or an all Maple neck? I would guess it adds some sustain and low end to an all Maple but not as much as the Purpleheart. And for the core, how does the Vermilion differ from the standard Mahogany? |

I came across this photo. http://www.edperlstein.com/images/JazzCollage/6.htm © Ed Perlstein photography. Check out his site, http://www.musicimages.com/ I think this is one of the best Stanley shots I've ever seen! (Message edited by pasewark on May 08, 2004) |
