Plays & sounds like no other. Worth every cent. How do you get the drool off of the finish? ElleryExcel 4

I like the thread name, "my first Excel". At least you realize early on that Alembics can be addictive!

As for the finish, I can't help you with the drool, but I do use Zaino Brothers car show polish on the body of my Excel and it really makes it a mirror shine that nothing sticks to.

Good catch Paul. I own this one less than one week, and I'm already looking for another. If any of the spirits or guardians that watch over bass players are reading this, then be it known that I'm dreaming about an "MK" signature.

Yep. As I'm fond of saying, you're on the road to a nice, clean, healthy new addiction....

Very pretty bass, BTW. Each one is unique aren't they?

Ah-la-la ..were are the days we could get addicted to a good beer!
Nice bass. Always loved the Excel shape.
Brother Ellery can you give us some insight in this IMHO unusual PU-set-up. What is the sound? How is it wired?
I always like PU more to the bridge side (cfr. Musicman's).

Paul the bad one

On boxing day, I went to the local dealer, took the opertunity to try several different Alembic models, and decided that the feel & sound of this one was just right for me. I will own that although I knew that Alembics were la creme de la creme, I was unaware of the models available, the differences thereof, and the status afforded to someone who owns one. In an earlier post on a different thread someone suggested that Mica would be able to post the build history of this bass s/n# 03X13082. Perhaps that will happen after the holiday break. From what I can gather, it looks as though there is the standard Fatboy pickup and a MXY. The controls (in order) are volume, pickup pan, bass and treble. When the volume is at full and the others are set at Flat position, the sound is percussive with a growly type of tone.
